If you want to buy --
Swisher pens Click on the Calligraphy button
Pendemonium Click on Writing Instruments in the left margin and then Dip Pens in the middle array.
Pear Tree Pens Click on Brause in the left margin.
Art shops may have a range of pen holders and nibs.

If you want to make --
Look at some of the examples, particularly in Pendemonium. A holder would seem to me to be simple to turn. The only problem is getting the slot in the front right so it will take standard nibs.
You may have to buy some cheaper holders so you can get the pen slot dimensions.
You may want to consider making a dip nib from a feather. The only real problem there is persuading the goose, swan or ostrich to let you have the raw materials. wink.gif

This ebay seller (who is great to deal with) sells ferrules and a wide variety of nibs:

What is your intended project?

I have used that type of ferrule before, and was not impressed. The problem is that many nibs won't fit in the ferrule.

I use a different style of insert for my dip pens that fits all the nibs I have tried in it.

I have a bunch of ferrules that I will likely never use. I'll sell extras for $.50 each and $1 first class postage.

Those ferrules work very nice, I just finished a dip pen tonight and have an old Speedball tip in one of them. The 7mm brass tubes that us penturners use also fit the OD of the ferrules perfectly.

Here is a dip pen I made tonight that if I get it right, will have a desk base and funnel. I am still thinking about the best way to make the funnel attach to the base. The section is Poly-resin with leopardwood and a CA finish. I am kicking myself because I had planned to insert a brass washer between the wood and the PR section and I forgot all about it... happyberet.gif

Firefyter-Emt, What a pretty dip pen holder! thumbup.gif Are you a fan of Speedball nibs? I prefer Esterbrooks so far.

I do like them, but to be honest, I don't use them too often. I really love the flapper one these nibs that I was given with a drafting set months ago. I am able to write "The quick red fox..." twice on one dip with that Pelikan-4001 ink. It's pretty cool how long it holds the ink for.

This is the first one I have made with a PR section on it. The idea came from the old ink sac sections and I wanted to try to copy that style. I have another blank drilled and glued up waiting for me to turn off enough so I can fit the black PR onto it WITH a brass washer this time!

Firefyter-Emt, Is "the flapper" like an ink reservoir? I've rigged up a few flexy dip nibs onto desk fountain pens with feeds. You have to force the fit somewhat but once it place it allows you to write a long time on one dip - you even get some ink through the sac but that part is inconsistent. Is that something like what you're doing?
Firefyter-Emt
Nope, something like that could be rigged up. I just wanted to edit this because you made me go and look up to see if I can find out what it's called. The "flapper" is called a "reservoir" to "trap ink". I was correct on what it did, but just did not call it by the right name.

Here is a close up.

And here is a modern version. http://www.islandblue.com/store/product/20...NG-PEN-NIBS-A3/
