Hello everyone. Just dropping a note to say hi, give myself a brief introduction and ask a few questions.
I'm, as mentioned above, from Calgary, Alberta. I'm an eternal student, still muddling my way through the post-secondary educational system. I fell in love with fountain pens after a long struggle to find something that just felt right to be putting down pages of notes with. After years of various rollerballs and the like, I finally wandered into a few affordable Cross pens, and a Waterman Phileas. It's been a pleasure to write, ever since. People always remark that I seem to take twice as many notes as required - but what can I say, it's simply a pleasure to write.
I always get a few comments each semester from other students about my use of fountain pens, and I've yet to find another student who writes with one. I suppose it's partially a luxury not afforded by most students - seems the 80 cent Bic pen and ridiculously light recycled paper is the norm.
I'm just now branching out from cartridge style pens to more traditional filling systems - specifically the piston system featured on my new Pelikan M800. I'm a little concerned with carrying around this pen for my daily writings - am I being overly cautious? I do truly love writing with this pen, but I'm worried about it faring the bumps, bangs and simple use demanded by a full-time student. Any advice or recommendations for me?
Thanks and regards,
J.

Hi, and welcome to FPN. I love to use a Montblanc Meisterstuck 144, so I rotate it with a couple more and I get the pleasure of writing with it 5 days per month.

And cartridges can be refilled from bottled ink with a syringe. Lots of people do it including me. Welcome to FPN!

Welcome aboard!. IF you're worried abou the M800, try a daily workhorse, a Lamy, a Waterman Kultur or a M200.

Welcome indeed, Gunner.
There's getting to be quite a contingent of folk from the Foothills City here. Hope you enjoy the place.

Welcome, Gunner. I wouldn't be afraid of using your M800 on a daily basis. Pelikan produces great pens. I also encourage you to enjoy them as much as you can. Writing instruments are made precisely for that purpose. Inevitably it may get dinged, but as you'll quickly learn there are many people associated with this network that are skilled in repair and restoration. (I am not one of these. I simply appreciate the art of fine writing.)
So enjoy! Don't be afraid. Write with passion and enjoy the experience!
