I have a Sheaffer snorkle pen that appears to be a Sentinel model but I do not see where a snorkle come out under the tip? The tip says Sheaffer made in USA 14k, 1066698.

If you don't have a tube that comes out (snorkel BTW - not snorkle) but a hole in the end it is a tip dip.

It's not a Tip Dip if it has a 14K nib; both Tip Dip models had steel nibs. (Interchangeable. Yummi!)
Sounds like there's no hole at all in the feed? If not, you probably have a Touchdown, possibly a TD Sentinel Deluxe. Or, since there's a serial number on the nib, it may be older yet. When you pull out the filler, is it a tube almost as large as the barrel, or a narrow rod? (And please forgive if I'm asking stupid questions. I adore Touchdowns. smile.gif )

If its a Snorkel, you would most certainly know it.
How about a photo? Good or bad photo, there won't be any doubt.
Just love those Snorkels ---------------- And Targas

The tube is almost as large as the barrel.

A picture will be coming soon. According to the description on PenHero.com for the Touchdown Sentinel Delux, all the requirements seem to match. How do I look up the age of the pen by the s/n on the nib?

I beg to differ. Vis:

...but no one will mistake that for a Sentinel of whatever filler. It's a Canadian-made Cadet with a 33 rather than 23 point.

I am getting more confused by the minute. The cap has the raised white dot with the four line grouping on it. Maybe I should just take the pen to the Atlanta pen show and let someone there tell me what I have.

puddle.gif I stand happily corrected. Why don't you just send that little guy over here so I can get a closer look at him. wink.gif j/k

ad4vs, the tube does make it either a Touchdown or a Snorkel. The serial number makes me think Touchdown (they're mostly on first year Touchdowns, although many exceptions are known). A photo of the underside of the feed and of the pen with filler tube extended will almost certainly get you a positive ID.

Let's try this, since I have the picture on-line already.

From left to right, Touchdown, Snorkel, and TipDip. Which one does yours look most like?

Touchdown! and you have 6 points!

Hello:
Can you tell me the difference between a tip dip and a touch down. I also have the pictured tip dip in orange and made in canada and with a 14k 33 nib 585.

The tip dip pens are a Touchdown variant that have a hole in the feed so that you can fill by dipping only half the nib into the ink, instead of all of the nib and part of the section like a normal Touchdown. The filling system is the same except for that hole.

...and the really good news for the founder of this thread is that Touchdowns are, without a hint of exaggeration, a thousand zillion times easier to do maintenance on than a Snorkel. TipDips too, for that matter. The model names jump from TD to Snork, so a quick look at the correct bits of the Gallery at PenHero.com should pin down the model pretty quickly. Since TD's as such were only made from 1949-51, it's pretty easy to approximate the date of manufacture, especially of it's not a Thin Model. With a numbered nib, I suspect it's a non-Thin Model, but without a picture, that's a rash assumption to make.
