I bought an old Lady Sheaffer FP off ebay and it has arrived (eventually!). I am really disappointed as although it is a nice looking pen, when I took the lid off the nib was bent upwards like a ski slope! crybaby.gif

I flushed it out anyway and stuck a cartridge in it and it wrote ok considering but then after a page it stopped writing. I took the cartridge out and had a look at the nib, it is slightly hooded type, and it had moved outwards (so the bottom side of the nib itself was no longer touching the pen) so I wiggled it and it started to come out. I've managed to straighten the nib itself but it isn't sitting snug where it's supposed to be and every time you put slight pressure on, it lifts up again. headsmack.gif

Do these nibs 'lock' in or something? Or is it beyond repairing?

Can anyone help?

No-one? Anyone??

I don't know about pens but have you emailed the seller? How detailed was their description, did it say anything about the nib? If they said it was in working order.. it isn't.

I'd like to see a photo. Even so, I probably wouldn't be much help.

How about some commiseration? That I can do.

Anyway, sounds like you were sent a damaged pen. I'd return it.

If that nib was a triumph style nib it is supposed to have the upslope.... as for being loose, pictures would help...

Hi,

I think I know the design you're referring to, and I regret to say that I've had this very problem with one of these nibs. I was not able to reseat the nib. My asuumption is that it is normally locked in place, and that the locking mechanism had broken. Repair might be possible, but I took the easy way out and solved the problem by locating a substitute nib/section unit.

On the other hand, while the upsweep of the nib looks wrong, it is, in my experience, normal for this design.

Good luck!

Jon

Oops so I shouldn't have 'straightened' it then........

I'll try and take some pics of it.
