Okay, okay. I know it is a totally different pen, but it is interesting that they used this model number once before.

Comments?

What is the approximate mfg date?

When did Parker use this type of nib marking?

Is it a Frankenpen? The overlay between cap and barrel seem different. Could it be a custom order?

When did Parker offer this sort of "51."

My reference books have maybe one photo of one of these, and it was a BHR version. Are they a pretty scarce model?

Okay, let me take an educated guess:
Pen is circa 1920, along with overlay and nib.
Doses anyone know the history of this first Parker 51?

You have posted this 2 days ago with no reply so that means lots of other people here are clueless (just like me).

Unsure of what model it really is, but for the pre-duofold pens you might check here:

Either way, its a nice little pen. the ring-tops are a bit short for my tastes, but the novelty of using an overlay pen makes up for its small size.

Thanks Chris. The links are very interesting, with a lot of great info.
Here is a link to David Nishimura's site. He has a 5.25" 51 with gold filled band.

He describes it as an "Uncommon model", so I may have a good find. The ebay pen is about 4.5" so it is a ladies' ring top or vest pocket model. Of course, it does have a Sterling overlay, so it's a nice find IMO.
