Hi all,

Was perusing the Market Watch forum last night, and stumbled upon this thread....

http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=50483

I had to do a double take...It was I who bought this pen! Now this thread has sparked my curiosity about if I got a good deal or not.. I think I did, but if some of the other Montblanc regulars could give an opinion that would help me price future purchases also..here is the original Ebay Auction..

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

Rick

I think the thin, rounded ring at the piston knob and the tri-tone nib make it earlier, sometime between about 1959-1967 or so...

I think that a good condition 149 for under $300 is a very good buy. My most recent 149 is a used 1980ish model with light use marks on the resin and a truely lovely B nib. The piston filler functions as it should. I paid $275 for it and I think that price was very fair to both the seller and to me. There will invariably be some self styled expert who will claim I paid too much or that he could have gotten it for much less. Sure. It is my pen and I am a happy camper.

I hope you enjoy your 149.

Similarly, my most recent MB purchase was a 1980ish 149 in superb condition, and I paid $300, which I was quite happy to pay. I'd say $275 is a great deal. thumbup.gif

Hi,
Thanks everybody for the replies...have been away and not able to check the thread.

I'm glad everybody thinks the deal was good..thanks

Kalessin....dating these Montblancs is certainly an inprecise science and is maddening headsmack.gif . Comparing this pen with my 1960's, the nib is tritoned, but the feed has no vertical grooves. Also re-examing the piston filler ring..it is not quite rounded..it is more flat but thin...hence I think it is more early 70's but who really knows except the original purchaser!!! Thanks for your help.

Thanks pal! The 149 is a beauty. Got one myself years ago and since then been loving it happyberet.gif

I would think it's a super deal for less than 300 bucks, you get a 149 which writes well. To be honest, my recent deals from ebay didn't turn out to be that well. Got one defective nib needed a change. Till now still waiting for the seller to reply. <sigh>

Rick, luck was with you biggrin.gif

Not a bad deal at all. Hard to date it without seeing it up close. Don't know whether it has brass fillers or resin. I don't think it's a pen from the 60's, most likely 70's - 80's. I have several 149s and I love all of them. My fave is my '79 Broad, I got it for $199 on ebay over a year ago new. Good luck with your new girl!
