Full Version: Remex-- that's a cheap Waterman, right?

I picked this little fellow a little while ago, and just got around to resacking:

All that the body imprint indicates about it is that it's a "REMEX" SELF-FILLING PEN from Canada. I wanted to check with the group intellect that this is in fact a low-cost front for Waterman, and one other thing: How does one tell really well-preserved BHR from the contemporary plastics? The only idea I've had is smell; when gently warmed by breath, this thing does smell a little like an eraser, while a Sheaffer 3-25 smells only vaguely of my own breakfast (cinnamon buns!). I'm having a little trouble believing that a pen found in a jumbled box at an antique store with an astonishing flat spot on the nibs is so completely free of oxidation if it's made of rubber, and this thing is smooth as glass and shiny. Any other ideas for non-destructive testing?

Send it to me and I'll be happy to test it for the rest of my life. I'll send you yearly updates on it rolleyes.gif

Congrats on an excellent find. Looks like a stunning pen

What i do to see if it is hard rubber is to rub it vigoroulsy with my fingertip until the friction creates a little heat, then smell it. It should have a faint sulphur smell.

Well, blow me down. That's $8 pretty well spent, then. I thought I'd have to spend all kinds of money on a BCHR of any make where the B didn't stand for 'brownish'.
