Hello all, new member here from Virginia Beach, VA. I have been a fountain pen fan since childhood. I have small handwriting with non-fountain pens and pencils but I take more time to make my FP writing legible. I still remember using a dip pen (with India Ink) in my high school biology class. I think my folks still have the notebooks!

I have collected a few pens on and off for at least 25 years but just recently pulled them out. I have been in the military for over 22 years and have been overseas and moved many times here in the US. I was in Afghanistan for two of the last three years so it's nice to be back home. I was digging through my packed stuff and found my fountain pens over Christmas. I had let my ca 1940's Sheaffer Touchdown (2 tone 14k nib) and Eversharp Skyline (very nice 14k nib) dry out. I was able to get them running again on my own. I also have a relatively inepensive Herlitz with at 14k nib I bought in Northern, VA years ago.

I have been busy over the last month or so adding a Pilot Knight, rOtring Core, Monteverde Invincia Bowtie, Sailor Sapporo (not the mini) with a wonderful 14k M (really fine point nib), Taccia Swisher Special, Pelikan Pelikano Jr (yeah it's bright blue and fun), Waterman Phileas (great writer), and my dream writer a 1948 Parker "51" Vacumatic in Cedar Blue (it's as good as they say). I also have two crappy GSP Cloisoine aero fillers bought in Korea in 1992.

I am enjoyed the site and I look forward to continuing to use it as a resource and meet cool people who share my passion for fountain pens.

Thanks, it's great to find a site with so many dedicated people sharing the same passion. Really makes pen collecting, and more importantly pen using fun!!!

Hi and welcome to FPN! Thank you for your service to our country! smile.gif

Thanks, I love what I do. You might be surprised to hear that lots of military folks use fountain pens. I was in a meeting last week and 3 out of 8 people in the room were using fountain pens and another normally uses them but chose to use a gel pen during the meeting. I got lots of questions about the rOtring Core I was using. Yeah it ain't pretty but it actually writes pretty well. One guy was using a really nice Parker 75.

Being mil spec myself, I'm not surprised at all. Got a battleship grey Cross that went places.

Welcome and thank you for your service!

How do you like your Sailor? I have two cheap student versions and I'm thinking of upgrading.

Yeah, those Pelikano Jrs. are fun, aren't they? As for the Rotring Core, I love the nib and their 'look' but for some reason that 'ergonomic' grip drives me nuts.

Well I really like the Sailor!! I have the Medium nib, it's really like a fine, and it writes well on most papers that I have tried it on. I have only tried one ink other than Sailor ink but no issues with that (Private Reserve Midnight Blue). It's probably my favorite pen after the Parker "51" but my vintage Sheaffer does give it a run. I picked the Sailor up at Swishers and I don't see any issues with it. I can definitely recommend it.
