Looking for information on Sheaffer pencils. I am trying to help out a friend who is trying to replace one he used to have. I have pictures of the style - ie a BP, and hope we can match that...

Bump.

Doesn't anyone recognize the model or have an idea where a repalcement might be found?

Hi Gerry,

The one on the left looks like it has a slightly bent clip whereas the one on the right looks like it has a straight clip...but the one on the left could be a Sheaffer TRZ pencil. Check out the 3rd photo from the top on this page from Jim's quiz:

I had a TRZ ballpoint and it definitely had a (deliberate) "kink" in the clip, but I am not sure if your friend's pencil had a straight clip or bent. If it had a straight clip, then I don't think it's a TRZ.

The one on the right in your photo above could be a Sheaffer Fashion pencil.

Thanks Maja...

Finally got my hands on it...

Indeed, it's the TRZ with the bent clip. Until today I was just working with the description from the owner.

I have a satin black TRZ ballpoint and pencil set.

Alas, the pencil isn't working very well. I sometimes wonder if something "fell out" awhile ago since twisting it to the max results in a metal shaft protruding from the point. No clutch mechanism. And the pencil lead won't "grip" and keeps falling out when I aim the point down.

Anyone know how to repair the Sheaffer mechanical pencils?

Sorry if I'm being obvious, but have you tried pushing on the lead so that it will catch? Sometimes I have to do this or the lead just falls out.

Yeah. I pushed down on the lead to make sure it would seat in the clutch. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a clutch "there" as i just chip and shatter the back of the lead against whatever it's pressing against.

What size lead are you using? If it's a .7 pencil and you're using .5 leads, that might cause the behavior you're seeing..

I've tried various sizes. 0.5, 0.7, and even 0.9 with no luck.

I used both Fineline and Sheaffer pencils for most of my working years without problems. If lead became stuck they seemed easy to fix with a strait pin to dig out the lead and install a new lead. .9 mm (.036 in. ) was the standard lead all those year. I still have the very first Fineline model i purchased in St. Louis in 1949. it does have a crack in the plastic near the front end. That model was used for years. A great dependable pencil. Thanks Sheaffer.
