Full Version: What can you tell me about the Parker 100

without planing I found myself waiting for a Parker 100.
I know very little about this pen and I would like to hear from you guys that own one how do you like it.

I know even though it looks like the 51 it has the mechanism of the 45 but I frankly am not worried about it.What I want to know is how do you like the pen in general and is it a good writer ?
Do you have any positive or negative experience with this pen.

I have one -- the now discontinued Blue Diamond GT colour -- and it's a good pen. It's quite big and heavy. While it echoes the shape of the iconic 51, it's substantially bigger and heavier. I would classify its writing quality as "middle of the pack". I have nibs that are smoother and wetter and some that are dryer and scratchier. It passes in and out of rotation and I often travel with it.

I picked mine up used for a very good price so YMMV.

I had and used one for some time, a Cobalt Black with F NIB. I liked the pen, the balance was nice posted although the cap had a tendency to loosen. The pen when capped also had some movement because of the two point design. Nothing to worry about though. Personally I find the 51 too light for my comfort and so I liked this pen better, even though that might not be a good comparison. The NIB had good ink flow when using a cartridge but I had a problem with the converter.
It sounds kind of negative but I really did like the pen and I may well get another some day.

Hi,

I have a blue one as well. In the early days I noticed quite a few negative posts on the site, and so I did my bit and stood up for it. As the posts above, it's a nicely weighted pen, a little blingy with the 50's Cadillac jet thruster jewel on the end of the cap and the barrel, which I like. It's also a sturdy beast, being made out of metal throughout. I found it writes wet and smooth, and I think others found this as well.

However, the painted finish is not very hard. It marks and scratches easily. I got a replacement barrel from Parker after it had been damaged by posting, but the paint was a different shade which I found irritating. Posting is a personal "fault" though and you might not suffer this. The section is also scratched, as is the gold finish on the cap. Compared to my Waterman Carene, the finish just isn't in the same league.

It is a nice pen; I have just had a bad experiance. If you are careful with the finish you should be fine. In general I am careless with my pens and I expect to get "experience marks"...The 100 has just not stood up to it as well as I hoped!

You should enjoy it,

Antony

I only recently began using this pen (I have the Blue too) and I really like it. It took me a bit to find the sweet spot, but once I did, it just glides and lays down a generous line. I have found the weight to be just about right, but obviously heavier than a 51. The smoothness of the nib works well with the weight and makes it seem to weigh less, in my opinion.

So far, I have not had problems with scratches or anything like that.

And it is a beautiful pen.

It's on sale at different stores right now, so this is the time to buy if you want it.

If I were you, I'd go for it!

I like mine so well that I bought a second, although I have yet to ink the second pen. The size, weight, and balance are perfect for me. The nib is very smooth.

Count my vote for it as well. I also have a blue one and it was in my daily rotation for a good long while. I liked the weight and balance and have used it as often posted as not. No problems with the cap slipping off, or the pen starting, scratching or skipping. I did notice, as abp did, that the finish scratches pretty easily and I have one on the barrel from posting. Again, I'm more a user rather than a collector (hoarding is definitely different from collecting, right?), so the scratch doesn't bother me that much.

Very trusty reliable pen.

Well, I was just inspecting some of these beauties on ebay for very nice prices with broad nib, but when you compare it to a Carene and find it wanting, even though it's an otheriwise nice pen...I know what I have to save for rolleyes.gif

I had one for a while and didn't really like it. It depends on the kind of feel you like in a pen really... I also forked out the cash for a new Duofold and didn't care for it much either - looked great though with that amber check pattern.. All of the new Parkers have a very different feel to me than the older ones and I just can't get around to liking the nib to paper feel of them though I've tried on more than three or four occasions...

So with that disclaimer that I really don't care for most MODERN era Parkers (I say most because I really hope one day I'll find one I like), you can take the following for what it's worth:

The 100 is a nice hefty size (more girth than a 51 for sure, and the metal barrel adds weight), and felt comfortable in the hand. Seemed to flow well and was a decent writer. It's a nice looking pen as well.. mine was the off white/gold cap.. It balanced better for me unposted..

Good luck with it!

I bought myself one for Christmas. It has a nice weight and balance and laid a nice smooth, wet line. Unfortunately I dropped it on the tile floor, right on the nib, and it's off for repairs. If you look online you can find some good deals.
