Hello folks,

I have an interesting dilemma. I have a Sheaffer TD that I almost ID'd as a Statesman. But then I realized the cap looks to be a Valiant. Ok, say I figured I got a Statesman barrel and nib w/a Valiant cap. My dilemma is, the white dot is not raised like I normally see on a Valiant (e.g. Snorkel-Triumph). Can a Valiant cap be without a raised white dot. Or do I have another pen altogether. I hope this isn't too confusing.

Any help would be appreciated. Pic below...

Thanks to all for making this forum such a great place. smile.gif

Hi Dave,

Take a look at this PenHero (Jim Mamoulides' amazing website) reference article:

Sheaffer Early Touchdown Pens 1949-1950

Your pen looks just like the first Valiant at the top of the page. Inlaid white dot and all...

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,

thank you for responding. Yes, I did see that pen. Is it possible, though, for a Valiant to have another nib besides a Triumph?

again thanks,
Dave

Good question - don't know the "correct" answer.

I'm sure that it could have been replaced, so even if Valiant pens were equipped with only triumph nibs, they could still be substituted later. I don't have the catalogues, so can't readily tell. Jim M.'s site makes it sound like they were only available with triumph nibs. Hopefully, one of the Sheaffer mavins will come along soon and help us...

Cheers,
Tom

Awesome... I was planning on giving him a call to see if he got it. I'll bet he's stoked.
