Just curious, I e-mailed this company about 2 days ago about some refurb parts and I have not gotten a reply. Is it better to fax an order request or do they just take a little bit to get back? From what I see, this is one of the companies reffered to more than anyone else.

Oh, and while I am at it. Can I get away with shellac I have in my shop to seal the new ink sac or should I pay the money for the bottle? Seems like a waste if shellac will work just as good.

I have submitted orders to Tryphon and have had very fast replies. I tell them what I intend to order and ask for shipping cost and they come right back with it the same day. I usually snail mail the order with a check. It takes a while for a check to clear, but everything else: shipping estimate, order confirmation, shipping notice come back by e-mail lickety-split.

Shellac can be a problem. I mix my own from flake shellac and denatured alcohol. The two ingredients react slowly together to make a substance that won't dry. It turns to gummy, rubbery stuff for me in less than six months. Try the shellac you have (make sure that it is only shellac and not a mixture of other finishes). Paint some on a piece of wood. If it dries hard in an hour or so, you are good to go.

It took 3 or 4 days to get a reply when I contacted them in December. I feel kind of bad because I haven't ordered anything yet, but what I needed didn't come close to their minimum order...

Giovanni tends to travel quite a bit for his "real world work"... his wife generally handles the email orders, but they also have a lovely little girl and that takes up a bit of time also..
Sometimes his wife and child travel with him, especially if he is going overseas..
Be patient, they will get back to you..
I have never had a bad business experience with Giovanni

Thanks, I am not in a hurry so it's not a big deal at all.

What is the min. order? I have a few things, but down the road if I need just an inc sac would they not send just one or two? I am looking maybe $25 right now if I can use the shellac I have here. They appear to have a ton of great stuff which is not something you can buy at "Wal-Mart" so I like to order from people that keep selling stuff like this.

Thanks guys!

I've never had any minimum order from Giovanni.

As far as I know, you can order whatever max or min you want.

I ordered from them on Tuesday and Sylvia got back to me later the same day. Always a good experience. There is no minimum order amount that I am aware of.

On the shellac question; well worth it, just for the convenient little bottle with applicator brush. I've only made one order thus far, but I'm building up the urge to get some proper tools (like... a vac-tool!).

One time I ordered I got an almost instant response, the next time it was a week or so because Giovanni was out of town for a while. Once I was contacted, got the stuff almost overnight!

Reminds me, I need some section sealant and some sacs and a J-bar....

Hmmmm... I guess I will send another e-mail becuase there was no reply as of yet.

Although that is not a bad thing, I just grabbed another Sheaffer off e-bay that will need a new sac! I got busted by the wife too, I was just getting ready to snipe it, last 15 seconds, the bid is typed in just need to press place bid now and she walks in!! Too late to hide, must keep bidding!!

Won it, but got caught!

I have ordered from Tryphon and have always received my order very quickly. I have paid with Paypal and by credit card.
It is not cost effective for them to process a credit card order for less than $20.00, so that is their minimum order if payment is a credit card.

Mailing them a check or by Paypal, the amount of the order does not matter.

LOL This is one of the best reasons to use a sniping service! I was following an Ebay topic on FPN last week about whether to snipe (to snipe or not to snipe) and we didn't think of this. I bought 2 pens last week while I was having dinner with my wife, she never found out ...

Giovanni's shellac formula has a very good shelf life. I've using the same bottle for 2 years and it's still holding up fine.
