I was just at the Sheaffer web sight, in the "Contact Sheaffer" section, and at the top of the page was a Valor with what looks like a map, yes map, finsih on it. Not sure if it is a prototype or a photoshop job. I did notice that they say that finish is not available. But will it be in the future? I know I would seriously consider adding one to my collection of pens. So many pens, so few dollars.

Got to be Photoshop. I can't imagine getting the pattern on the threaded part of the section like that.

It's a photoshop image. There is no such Valor. It even says so on the image (link below).

Given that people are asking about it, Bic might want to think about producing a pen with this finish. I don't know what would be involved but it might be well worth an internal study to explore the option.

Hi All,
Absolutely, Bic should consider this design - or just about any design that exhibits a touch of visual interest. Having snored my way through the latest Sheaffer catalog, I'm about ready to believe that Photoshop may be the only way we'll ever see another truly colorful Sheaffer finish.
But as long as we're talking Photoshopped Valors (not that I'm holding this out as an example of good technique!), how about one that actually has some connection to Sheaffer tradition...like, say, a Carmine Striated?

Absolutely cool design! I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Yes, the "world map" Sheaffer really would be a fantastic finish! I would buy one, too!!!
...but, how to reproduce this finish? Printing would not stay long enought on the pen any might look ugly looking closely at it seeing all those pixels. Individual painting would be too expensive so we're back to the technique the Conway Stewart Floral pens have been produced; some sort of high quality printing protected by a clear layer of celluloid/resin/plastic!

seems none of this would be too tough
I've seen pens (iirc) that have maps apparenty screened onto the plastic. Heck, iirc, i've seen "mother of pearl" pens in which the MOP is just screened onto plastic.

The Carmine Striated is an excellent idea. I'd consider it

No screen printing.... :-( But how about engraving some contours and filling in with colored laquer? This might get it a more premium look than screening :-)
