In the spirit of being open and honest I must say that I am not a FP collector or really a pen collector at all per say. I have wanted a MontBlanc for quite some time and was given one as a gift from my wife to celebrate the birth of our son. I am easily hooked on new hobbies and am interested in the world of pen collecting. My grandmother has been going to auctions for antiques for as long as I can remember so I guess collections might just be hereditary. I can see myself hunting down interesting pens for years to come. I would venture a guess to say that my next pen will be a MB Starwalker and am hoping to find someone willing to part with one on this forum. I also plan on buying my dad a MB for his b day next month.

Hey Jvangun -

Congrats on the rugrat. You need to start a collection of earplugs, not a collection of fountain pens.

That not withstanding, the Montblanc Meisterstuck is a great pen, though you'll find it's detractors on this board as well. Which model did your better half give you? The 149 is the large size, the 146 a bit smaller.

The Starwalker you have your eye on is one of my favorite pens. Mine is the wicked cool rubber and platinum model. The rubber gives the pen a great texture, and the platinum grids dress it up. Looks good with khakis and a polo - looks good with a dark suit. If you pull the trigger on the Starwalker, spend a lot of time with the Montblanc store trying out their demonstartion nibs (even if you buy the pen elsewhere). The Montblanc sales staff tries to convince everyone to buy medium nibs - because that's what they have in inventory. I like their broad instead - it gives the pen a little line width variation - the mark of a fountain pen.

Have fun - burn some ink.

Welcome, have a look through the Montblanc forums where you will find the good and bad about MBs. Must admit I have never really been attracted to MBs, I have tried them a couple of times and quite like the thought of a large pen, but have always found them too expensive so have never succumbed to the temptation.

As already suggested if you can try before you buy, it can save costly mistakes, when what you think is the ideal pen turns out to be too big or heavy or whatever.

Having said that they have their fans and I am sure you will enjoy your pen very much.

Welcome to FPN. Check the marketplace for the pens you are seeking. You never know what will turn up there.

Pen collecting is ok. Not using the pens you have is sacrilege!
