Does the designation of C rather than K indicate a method of dating or of marketing? Usually I see 14C or 18C but occasionally also see nibs as 14K or 18K. ???

The C method is archaic, modern penmakers use a K. I'm sure that some smart Mont Blanc guy knows that date when they switched...

Websites about gold say that "C" (or "carat") is used in Europe, while "K" (or "karat") is used in the U.S.A. Europeans also stamp gold with 585 and 750, while American producers would use, respectively, 14K or 18K for these designations. (58.5% gold or 75% gold). ~ Lilac
