Friends,

I am a Pelikan fan and have no exposure to Italian pens . I have recently become interested in Stipula Limited Edition Etruria Nuda and Suprema Nuda pens demonstrator . Before i purchase these i need your advice on the following :

1. How do these pens compare .Which is better (more practical and stable design) . Are there any detailed reviews of Suprema Nuda .
In short is the extra price of Suprema Nuda justified.

2. Are nibs screwable (screw in and out for replacement) , just like Pelikans .

3.How good are Stipula nibs , when compared to standard brands like Pelikan , Parker , Pilot etc.

thanks in advance.

regards,

Devjeet.

Hi Devjeet,
I am not really qualified to answer all of your questions as I've only got an Etruria Nuda. I'll try, though, so that you've got some answers before Wim and the other Stip experts weigh in.

1. Sorry, I don't know.
2. Yes, you can screw them in and out (Etruria for sure and I think the Suprema nibs, too)
3. I like my Etruria nib quite a lot (and better than the Pelikans I used to have) but - I guess I'm a bit weird that way - I like my Sheaffers better. I've got the 1.1 italic nib, btw.

I hope this helps a bit,
Nellie

Thanks Nellie . I really appreciate , your honest inputs, and i second your thoughts about Pelikan nibs . I have Pelikan's Flagship model '' Majesty '' and the only thing i am not satisfied with is the scratchy nib(Fine). I have heard a lot about smooth ness of Etruria nibs and thus when i wanted a demonstrator i zerored on to these two . How do you feel overall about Etruria nuda's (looks , fit finish , ergonomics etc).

Opinions / suggestions , from others are more than welcome .

regards,

Dev

The design and shape of the Suprema is different. Personally, I prefer Etrurias over Supremas. I don't know of any detailed reviews of the Suprema Nuda, unfortunately. If it is worth the higher price, I don't know either. The Etruria Nuda is an older model, with a simpler filling system, it si a pistonfiller, while the Suprema uses the new Torricelli system, a pump system. The Etruria has a rhodium plated 14K gold nib, the Suprema a 14K yellow gold nib. The Etruria has silver trim, the Suprema gold trim. I think that in the end it is all about what you prefer, and whether you are prepared to pay extra for a different filling system and yellow gold trim and nib.

Yes, on these pens they are.

Well, they're different. That is the short answer biggrin.gif.

A longer answer is that they are springy, with the most wonderful tactile feedback, which no other fountain pen I ever touched can match. IMO, there is no other pen with a nib and writing experience that is as nice as the large Stipula nibbed pens. To this day I find myself occasionally just looking in admiration at the nib and pen when writing with one of my Stips, just enjoying the experience .... biggrin.gif

Ergonomically, for me the Etrurias are perfect. Right size, right curvature, and a section that is shaped to fit most, if not all hands, small and large, thanks to the concave finish. Of course, the Suprema has this too, but personally, I do prefer the more classical shape of the Etruria.

Thank a lot Sir !!!

You have floored me with such a perfect description of a almost perfect pen (it seems) . I have made up my mind about going for the Eturia Nuda as it has everything i want and i don't want to take the risk with the complex design of Suprema pump . As an Engineer , my motto is
''Simpler designs are always more durable'' .

One last question , what is that beautiful inkpot(with pen stand) in your signature photo . How , where and for how much can i get(I mean in market / Internet site).

It has been a pleasure reading and learning this particular section of FPN.

regards,

Devjeet

I've been told I can be very convincing when I believe in something biggrin.gif.

Well, it is a Rubinato ink well, which I bought in one of my favourite B&M stores. Essentially it is an ink well manufactured in India, which is distributed by Rubinato here in the NL, and filled with Rubinato black ink. Rubinato is an Italian company.

The lid is available in different shapes, namely with an elephant on top, a cat, or the flower pattern on mine.

The pen is a Stipula Etruria Majestic 'Indian Nights', so very appropriate....

WOW........What a beautiful picture and combination...You are not only good with words , your macro photography skills also seem to be excellent .....

Perhaps , asking you for the name of the Indian company , which manufactures these inkwells would be too much . I live in India and can get this item at a fraction of it's European price maybe.

Cheers ! Looking ahead to more interaction with you.

Dev.

Thank you for your kind words.

The funny thing is that pens drew me back into photography, this time digital of course, because I realised I had a darkroom once more biggrin.gif.

Funnily enough I was at the store today where I bought the inkwell to have a chat - same store where I ordered my Etruria Gaudis biggrin.gif. Next time I will be there I'll ask, maybe they know, or have a contact name for Rubinato. If it is of any help, the underside of the bottle has an O or circle in the centre, anout 6 or 7 mm in diametre, with a capital V seemingly dropped on time, slightly larger than the circle, and the number 6 underneath. Thw latter is probably the size or model of the bottle. There seem to be no other markings on the bottle or the cap and pen rest, to indicate who manufactured it - I just had a look at it with a magnifier.

Wow! yikes.gif That Etruria Majestic 'Indian Nights' is lovely. I am sorry that I could not even identify the pen in the avatar as a Stipula. It is too small for my eyesight. Geesh. I want one just like it.
