Full Version: ADVISE FOR FIRST WAHL-EVERSHARP (PLEASE HELP)

Lately i have been left wanting for an American fountain pen of my own. Since i don't use cartridges (can't stand them) naturaly i focused on a vintage pen with either a Piston or Lever filling mechanism.

Thats when i stumbled on a Wahl-Eversharp Rosewood Hard Rubber Ringtop fountain pen. What a gorgeous color pattern and it has a flex nib. However, since my experience with Fountain pens mostly deals with German piston fillers (Pelikans), i was wondering if anyone could tell me if this Rosewood Rubber ringtop is known as a good pen? Is it high maintenance and is it fragile? Does the color fade if its exposed to synthetic light (lightbulbs in the office)?

I have no experience with Wahl-Eversharp but if this pen turns out good then it could be the begining of a long association with the brand. Please give me any advise you can spare. Thank you for your time!!!

The Wahl rosewood pens are great. I have a couple- a ringtop and a slightly larger clip pen. I wouldn't consider them fragile at all. While UV light will eventually fade the HR a bit, I haven't found indoor use to be a problem.

UPDATE

The Rosewood Ring Top that i have just purchased has a #2 nib (with flex) and the color is almost perfect, great state of preservation. Its in full working order and has no brassing either. A superb speciment. Since the seller is a prominent and respected member of FPN, i trust the pictures and description will hold true when i actually receive it.

I will review it when i receive it in the fountain pen review section of FPN.

And the nice thing about most sellers on this website, is that if the pen does not make ya happy, we're usually pretty good about taking it back wink.gif

Am sure that won't be an issue. I'll try it out and I know I'll most likely enjoy it so much I'll end up buying more Wahl-Eversharps in the future (just a feeling ) rolleyes.gif .

Am sure I'll treasure it and use it as part of my regular rotation along with my Pelikans for many years to come.

There's nothing more satisfying for me than the idea of taking a fountain pen and "borrowing it" for many years to come before passing it along to a newer generation of fountain pen enthusiasts some time in the distant future, so they may derrive as much satisfaction with them as I have had. That is something you just can't get with cheap throw away bic ball points.
