...check: ebay item 120218805154

It has the white dot (?!) and a really strange "Sheaffer's imprint" and the rest is just so "no Sheaffer's like" :-)

A strange vintage replica maybe ?

I'm curious about what you think.

You are right. There seems to be nothing right about this pen. I have never seen a Sheaffer pen with a screw on cap dome, piston fill or ink window like that. the white dot is off center, the clip looks like a Pelikan clip, and the Sheaffers imprint looks like it was done with a home imprinter. The nib hole is round, not typical, and the white metal starts too high up on the nib.

The rarest of the rare! A Viennese Pelisheaffer with Parkersharp buttontwist filler!

That is a weird looking item, all right. I don't know what it is, but I am strongly moved to believe it was NOT made in North America. Some kind of post-war knock-off? Harry Lime's pen, perhaps? It's almost tempting to bid just to have it where you can look under its tail to try and sort it out.

That's what I thought, too!

Let's keep watching this auction :-)

Yes, I've seen that one too and wondered about it. I thought it was just some kind of noname pen being sold by someone who simply hadn't got a clue. If one of you buys it, please let us know everything about it - I'm really curious.

I severely doubt it is a real Sheaffer's. I'm convinced it is a vintage European knock off. Very odd though!

"...look under its tail..."

Truly bizarre.

Bizarre it is, but there has been another “Sheaffer piston filler” on eBay (a different one!), so one can’t help wondering...

Can it be that, after WW II (?), Pelikan has produced some samples for Sheaffer? I know it’s a wild guess, but the “Frankenpen” theory doesn’t much appeal to me either.
