CP8 Contest

[/size]Dear Colleagues,

The long wait is over! The CP8 production is underway and we must select the engraving for the pen. We have six finalists and have placed them in order of preference. We would like you to guess our selections and you can arrange all the patterns by number or by name as given in the photos.

You can take a shot as many times as you like.

The contest runs simultaneously on Pentrace and FPN. I will moderate on Pentrace and Bill Spohn is moderating on FPN. Keep an eye on tips we give you during the contest. Once we have a winner on either board, the contest will end and the two best answers on each Board will receive prizes.

The two winners, one from each Board will receive a copy of "Fountain Pens of the World", for the two runners up, a copy of "Fountain Pens USA and UK". Andy would be pleased to autograph the books.

Have fun and good luck.

Note from Bill Spohn – you must include all 6 prototypes in your guess. To make my life easier, I ask that you simply list the numbers rather than the names, with your first choice first and last choice last. I'll post when there is a winner, as well as any hints Classic sends me as we go. Please click on the images to see a full size version - believe me, they look different than in the size the board shrinks them down to.

Here are the patterns (that are left):

#2 Flamme (Flames)

#4 Moire (Waves)

#5 Riffle (Rippled waves in a river)

#6 Vannerie (French Basketweave)

And as a bonus, a GIF that changes through all of the variations.

The last (=lowest) choice is prototype #1, the Coin edge.

Feel free to post additional guesses with that one eliminated. Further hints may appear as we narrow down on the correct order.

Hint #2 (and don't expect any more)

Remove the second last prototype from your guesses - #3, the Hobnail pattern was the second last.

You now have only 4 possibilities to put in order!

Thanks for 'playing'!

The first place and winner of FPOTW is Kenq, who had two pens in the correct spots.

The second place and winner of FPOUSA&UK is Ondina, who had the correct order but had rated #6 in the wrong place. For the record, Tony came up with the same order but posted later and Sarj had the correct order but posted after we closed the contest.

Will the winners please PM me their full names and mailing addresses so I can pass them on to Classic.

I cheated blush.gif blush.gif by sneaking a peek at Pentrace.
Well, you can't blame a guy for trying.......

Congrats to the winners.

Maybe you can negotiate a "shoulda, woulda, coulda" award from Mr Lambrou - perhaps a modest discount if you buy the CP8 when it comes out..... thumbup.gif

You know, I just happened upon this little contest, but I know squat about this pen, or the company that produces it, for that matter. Care to give me some brief insights?

Jonro - the contest is over now!

Tony, Classic Pens has been going since the late 1980s. Their goal is to produce interesting pens that would appeal to pen fans.

They began with sterling silver versions of existing pens, with barrels engraved by Murelli in France, on specialised machinery for producing guilloche designs going back to the 1930s.

They have done 7 issues in the CP (the original) series, based on other manufacturers' pens, and now have created the Legend pen from scratch, to be the basis for some of their other models, including the ZJ1 Mosaique.

I think you'll see future CP series will revert back to being unique editions of other makers' pens, but foir this one, they are (justifiably) proud of this design and I think it will make a very nice addition to the line.

Take a look at the past versions at CP SERIES

Thanks for the education. Just love the Targa, Pushkin & Iliad. Any chance of finding one of these for sale? If so, about how much would they go for?

Some of the early pens are quite hard to find, and were issued in small numbers. You rarerly see them for sale, but as it happens Carl sold a CP-2 Pushkin recently at what I consider to be a very low price - see CP2

Normally, depending on the model, how many were made, etc., they go from about $400 to well over $1,000. You might contact Mr Lambrou directly as he gets older pens in from time to time.

It took me 3 years to find an Iliad, so mine isn't for sale bunny01.gif

The CP8 should be for sale over this summer with deliveries in late summer or early fall. Pens, like all things, tend to take longer, rather than sooner to get onto the market, especially when they involve several companies - in this case, the US, France and Italy. They wanted to hold this contest on December, but the prototypes went astray in the mail!

I expect that Classic will announce the final spcification of this pen in the near future, with more photos. I understand it will be released in only one version in an edition of 500.

I have no connection with Classic other than as a satisfied consumer, but I'll keep an eye on thinsg and will make sure to post something here when they issue an announcement. In the mean time, you can find a few older models for sale at PEN HERO

Jim, the owner of that site took the pictures of these prototypes - a task whose difficulty can be appreciated only by those photographers that have attempted to take pen pictures before.
Tony the Tiger
I remember that post. Now, I also remember why I didn't buy it. Even still, I would have to say that the Targa would be my favorite.
wspohn
Will the winners please send (via PM) me their name and address, so the book prizes can be sent to them?
Keng
Thanks Bill and Classic Pens for the opportunity to own Andreas Lambrou's famous book and for the eye candy of the CP8 prototypes.
