Although I really like Pelikan pens I have to say that this pen really speaks to me. unfortunately it says put me down and run away. blink.gif It seems that the big bird has looked at Krone pen's too long. For a usually staid company this pen looks way over the top and I bet the price matches it as well. I'd be afraid of using the pen as I have had bad experience with frosted metal caps.

Oh well can't always bat a thousand.

I do like it better than the Giza it has a unique new look that pelikan has not explored yet I really dig this brushed look, but at a ticket of 2-3 thousand USD there is no way I would ever consider getting it unless I suddenly become rich.

I have to agree with Tytyvyllus. I like Pelikans, especially cool ones like the M320 and the M425. But the Pelikan "Colossus of Rhodes" is IMHO ugly. It styling sends mixed messages, none of which says anything I want to hear -- with one exception. That matte-surfaced nib roolz.

I think the matt nib is what sold it to me as a great looking pen I wish I could just take that nib off and see what it would do on a regular M1000 or If pelikan could start using this new creation more, it is a beautiful nib

It reminds me of some of the 'Duke' pens with all of the fancy metal work but really just a $20 pen. It is sort of gaudy and cheap at the same time.

But the matte nib is rather neat I wonder why no one else has done one except for Stipula and OMAS.

The body work reminds me of the ugly ancient greek vase copies that are sold in the touristic places in Greece. This is a ugly pen sad.gif

Mixed messages indeed, Richard. I, for one, noticed right away that it has an arrow clip. Hasn't that basically meant Parker (or Parker knockoff) since 1933?

It just doesn't look a dang thing like a Pelikan ... or like anything I'd want to use or display, even if I could afford to.

I´m afraid Pelikan missed the target this time... This is the worst new Pelikan design I´ve ever seen. How much does it cost? Looks exactly like a chinese 10-20 dollar pen...

Hi all
Maybe design is bad(i know i know its ugly) but soft matte finish is cool looking. The pen looks like cheap asian pen.I love the Pelikan Hercules LE it looks great
Roger
Not my cup of tea, even if I could afford it. Wonder if RogerW will buy one and ice it? rolleyes.gif

love the nib, the rest.. not of particular interest.

is it just me or is the shape reminiscent of the Eversharp Skyline?

part of my love of Pels is the consistency of their body shape. Little touches are always appreciated of course and some new materials in the mix would do well in their line-up.

i'm not an LE type. I can't explain it but it's not just that LEs tend to be gaudy or busy. Even a rather clean-looking LE is not likely to make it into my pen case.

Oooh, now you mention it, the cap *looks* like a reference to the Skyline. And the clip is probably, in their minds, a pyramid clip, but it certainly looks like a reference to an arrow clip.

I must confess I haven't yet seen a Pelikan LE I like -- the habit of sticking bits of metal on a perfectly decent barrel seems pretty low-concept. The worst is the Golf LE, but that may say something about me and golf. The Toledo remake is OK, but when I handled a friend's, it didn't seriously threaten my bank balance.

The frosted effect on the nib, OTOH, is fantastic. Presumably you could buy one and fit it on a proper traditional green stripy? (What's the pre-war Foreign Minister those things are named after?)

Yep, German Foreign Minster from 1923-1929 and Nobel Laureate Gustave Stresemann is who you are thinking of, Michael.
It's mentioned on the official Pelikan Chartpak website here (look under "The Classic Pelikan" section)

That's the one, thank you, Maja.

Skyline meets MB Kafka, exactly what I thought when I saw the picture.

Personally I think it's pretty cool that Pelikan's exploring outside of their typical Souveran shape, even if few of their offerings have been particularly enticing to me personally. Perhaps just as well, since I can't really even think about spending that kinda dough right now. :-) I do have to wonder how much ink would get caught on that frosted nib, though.
