Full Version: Waterman Carene counterfeit

I am considering buying a Waterman Carene, from ebay, such as this. My poverty leaves me unable to buy one from a high street shop, and so I have a concern that I may end with a counterfeit pen, and would like to know from any owners of this pen if there would be a way of telling, for example a number I could check was genuine when I received it.

Any other comments on the Carene Island pen would be appreciated also.

Hi, as far as the ebay shop you have mentioned here (i.e. The Bargain Home Shop, pilotfishtrading), you do not need to worry about it, they sell 100% original genuine pens, last year, I have once bought a set of Waterman fountain pens, two parker sonnet 18K gold pens, and two parker duofold mosaic LE pens just from this shop when I was in UK. Yes, the price is very nice.

But since you can not try the nib by yourself, I suggest you to ask the seller try the nib first for you to see if there's any problem(e.g. scrach the paper, etc) before post it to you.

Hello,

I will also second the recommendations for both vendors, JM Lewertowski and pilotfishtrading. Both are very reputable and excellent to do business with. I have bought several pens from each vendor. Buy with confidence here.

Hello,
I guess by now you have found the pen or pens you like but in case you are still looking my advice would be to simply buy from a 100% good feedback seller on Ebay.
The quality of counterfeits coming out of China is amazing. An amatuer would have little chance of picking it. At least if you end up with a fake sold by a reputable Ebayer, then you could get a refund.
In my view the safest avenue to take is to stay away from new pens and find a classic like a pre-war Waterman, Endura or the very classy Conway Stewart. These can still be found at collectors's fairs for not much money. Thus you could start a collection and be part of this rewarding hobby.
