hi,

i recently purchased a rollerball montblanc pen and the sales told me that i could either buy fineliner refills or rollerball refills. i don't have any experience with fineliners, does anyone know how they compare?

thanks

I don't have any experience with Montblanc fineliners, but in general I like them better than rollerballs. Fineliners are like a tiny stiff brush, and have less resistance on the paper than a rollerball. However, I don't know if the MB rollerball refills are smoother than average.

I don't like rollerballs, but I use a fineliner now and then.

If you hold your pen in a fairly upright syle, the rollerball should be prefectly smooth, as you will keep the pressure evenly on the "rolling ball" mechanism on the tip of the pen, however if you have a more laidback pen hold, you may find the rollerball scratchy, and therefore a fineliner may be the answer, as it has a larger useable surface area.

Good luck with whatever you choose
