Can't tell you much about this pen yet. This pen is huge... I mean huge. As you can see right next to a Gankai and Mikado. This pen also has a huge #50 nib.... yup, same nib that's on Namiki Emperor. The nib is 100% Japanese handmade by a Japanese nib meister. I tested the nib and it is smooth and wet! OK, that's it, that's all I am going to tell you for now.
In the simple packaging you found this huge ED:

Here is the pen uncapped:

Close up of the huge nib:

Right between a Genkai on the left and Mikado on the right:

All uncapped:

How big is the nib??? here you go:

The pen is made of ebonite, and though big, it is not uncomfortable to use. I suspect the final version will be different.

I couldn't resist the joke
That pen certainly deserves the name "Gojira"! It's massive ... I wonder how long it takes to fill with that little bitty dropper? And the size of that nib makes me cringe when I think about the price of gold these days, and yet ... man, do I want one.
You'll let us know the details when you can, right?

Wow! That's beautiful.
Have Dani thought about making a pen that's on the other end of the spectrum? I wish they made a very small pen- smaller than Hanryo. Maybe a size of Nakaya piccolo? I had Takumi-size Dani but it was too big for me

Awww! That's not fair. Why?! Is it not officially on the market yet? I would at least like to know the name. Is "Gojira" really it? Is this pen a continuation of the "raw ebonite" series?
I have made jokes that some of Dani's pens look like artillery shells, but this one comes close to the truth. Yet, like the other Dani's, I will assume the pen is balanced and rather comfortable to hold at the section. And probably heavy when filled with ink. I would like to see a review of this pen.
I have to point out the obvious that the slit in the nib is off center. I figure that is one of the things that will be changed in the production model.

And is there a need for that wimpy little eyedropper? Shall one just not..... pour ink right off the bottle into "Gojira"?

Yeah, I know, this is just a sample and very crude. The final version will be different. I am sort of like a tester and the pen is not difficult to use as it is not overly long. width does not bother me, but if the pen is too long and stick out too much, then the balance would be off. I did suggest them to shed a few pound on this monster. No official name yet, but I am sure with the pen this big, no matter what they call it, it will be know as the "Godzilla" or "Gojira"

. Much like the Avant Garde is known as Tac Carry I etc.

Yup, I inked it and wrote with it all weekend long. It is wet and smooth despite the slit is off. I was told this nib meister is quite well known in Japan. Consider this is a crude prototype nib, I am sure the final version if they decided to go ahead will be much more refined.
Too bad, this is not my pen.

I'm not averse to the idea of large pens, but the proportions are just wrong for me from an aesthetic perspective.
I couldn't like this pen. It would always look "fat" to me, no matter how special the nib or how wonderfully it worked. It just doesn't look "right" .

Forget the itty bitty eyedropper -- just pour your favourite bottle of ink into it!

Interesting looking pen, but I'd need (hyperbole alert) a crane to get it out of the box. The ebonite finish looks stunning though.
Edit: Another timeout error... Methinks someone is telling me to focus on the Excel spreadsheet in front of me instead of reading/posting the boards.

Hi,
I had the privilege of having dinner with Kevin (winedoc) tonight. He showed me the Godzilla pen, and even let me write with it. We both had a good laugh when I pulled out my Raden VP and compared nib size. Sort of like comparing a mouse with an elephant. What struck me most about Godzilla was how light and comfortable it was. Certainly, it is a thick pen, however, the section isn't much thicker than the Cum Laude size pens. It was a remarkable writer, even on the cheap paper we were using.
I also had the pleasure of getting to examine some of the maki-e pens from Danitrio. While the pictures Kevin posts are amazing, there is nothing like seeing the artwork in person. The frog, bat and dragonfly pens are absolutely amazing. For those going to the LA show, be sure to stop by Kevin's table and take a look the "art you can write with" that he sells.

Hi French,
It was great seeing you again and always fun to get away from daily routine for awhile and chat pens, and yup, you are the first FPNer to see the "Gojira" in person and glad you think the pen is not too cumbersome to use. I think the pen is more cumbersome to carry around as I have not find a single pen case that would contain this monster.... I think Elizabeth need to make a special Kimonon pen pouch for this one.
Best,

At the show, I had the pleasure to look and write with this pen. I love the nib on it!!! It is a nice wet writer and suprisingly light too!!! I hate to see what the price of the nib is going to cost!!! I believe Kev told me it is a #50 nib. I am looking foward to see what Danitrio is going to do with this pen!!!

The girth of the "Gojira" reminds me of the Tombow Zoom, but of course this one is much more refined.

And I imagine with it being light, it's easier to write with. Is there a plan to produce them in different colored urushi and some surface patterns?
