I received a beautiful stainless steel and carbon LeGrand Fountain pen. Everything is great except that the cap will not post on the pen. Is this normal? The cap just does not seem to fit.
Thanks for the help!

Not sure, but sometimes it's better NOT to post. Posting leaves marks and ring-scratches which can look very unsightly.
I have a stainless steel fountain pen that is the same size and looks almost like the 145. The 145 posts fine, the steel one doesn't. I think it might have something to do with the materials used (metal v. plastic?)

My 146 (LeGrand) does post, but it's not nearly as snug as most other fountain pens. Gently push it on there and write carefully so you don't accidentally knock it off. Certainly not the pen to write with while you're traveling on a subway, bus, etc.

Welcome to FPN, Alan.
My 146's do post well enough, but, like some of the others, I do not post with any regularity. I find both 146's and 149's to be very well balanced unposted. Try your pen unposted to see if you like it. If you must post, try the manner PenTieRun suggested, push gently but firmly on the cap, and I will add twist the cap slightly left or right. That little bit of a twist does a lot to build friction, and it spares you and the cap from your having to push too hard. It is a technique I use on my Sheaffer Balances, which tend not to want to stay posted. But, there too, I prefer to write with the pens unposted.
Good luck.

I have a stainless steel 146 solitaire (cap and barrel are stainless), and my cap does not post.
I had the same query, and someone told me the solitaires aren't meant to be posted.
My solitaire is very well balanced unposted, so I wouldn't post anyway.
