As is evident from the review, I love this vivid ink, and hope that Noodlers comes out with more standout colors like this one.
The only slight negatives (in my opinion) are that Baystate blue is a little too quick drying as there is just the slightest bit of feathering where the ink pools. In addition, Nathan Tardiff has written that the ink color is subject to change under strong UV light.
Care should be taken as this ink has been known to stain some plastics (specifically a yellow Lamy Safari). This ink is vulnerable to a 25% bleach solution. For what it's worth, a quick test of dipping a white Bic ballpoint pen in the ink did cause staining on the plastic, but it cleaned up nicely with the bleach solution. There are many different plastics though, so I would suggest keeping the pen exterior away from the ink.
Baystate blue is marketed as being waterproof.

Such a beautiful color. Is it just me or do blue inks flow more generously than other colors?

Thanks for the review.
The main downside to this amazing color is that it can't be mixed with other inks. At least not yet.

Now I know what it reminds me of:
The old Rotring Blue (maybe it was called "Royal Blue" but I'm not sure). The one that came in a small, low cylindrical bottle. It also wrote violet and dried blue...

Thank you for this review. I want the ink too.
Could someone please do a fading test ?
Thanks

Thanks for the great review, Stephen. I just received my BB (Baystate Blue) today. I also had a VP cursive italic awaiting. It writes just as you said...a smooth, wet, bright blue. I, too, look forward to more bright colors from Noodlers. To those who are waiting on their BB...it will be worth it
It looks like we finally found THE BLUE we were waiting for!. Mine is in the mail. Well see!.

I really like the hue of this blue.
I don't use supersaturated inks much, how long does this one take to clean out of the pen? Some of the PR inks I've tried literally take hours to flush from a pen... Where the Herbin's I usually use are flushed in minutes.

Nice review. The ink seems to have some violet or purple in it. I am not sure. It is a very nice color.
But does not seem to be true blue.
Am I the only one who see this. If so, maybe it is my screen. Or then again my eyes

Hey stephen, very nice, how does it compare to American blue? it seems brighter on the scan, sort of the colour it goes down wet?

Check this comparison of BSB and DC Supershow Blue. I understand American Blue to be pretty similar to DC:

American Blue in my pens is substantially darker than these scans of BSB; and very close to the comparison linked (and inked!) above.
I think I'm going to go for a bottle of this. It looks fun. I'd still love to hear about how easy (or not!) it is to flush from the pen... I'm pretty spoiled with the Herbin's. The PR inks I have take a lot of cleaning, and I tend not to use them much because of it.

I love this shade of blue if the scans are accurate.

I think the scan is pretty accurate.

I don't have any PR American Blue, but I do have Lake Placid Blue. Alongside Baystate blue, the Lake Placid blue looks like a blue-black (the contrast is quite vivid).

Agh! I can't resist the blue! I've seen tons of complaints about this ink's behavior (particularly staining) but I just can't stop myself from wanting this ink.
Thanks for the review! It convinced me that I need to add this to my collection.

I left my original writing sample of Baystate blue in the window for 4-6 weeks to test its UV resistance. None of the control inks were fountain pen inks. The two blue controls were calligraphy inks, and the red ink started out life in a violet Pilot varsity disposable fountain pen. Here was the result:

Very good review! Thank you for the scan. I've ordered the ink because I was so convinced of you review. Thank you for all the information you provided!

Ditto here. For me, fade resistance is more important than water resistance.

So I bit the bullet. Between blues and blue/blacks that is most of my inks and I couldn't resist. I loaded it into the Platinum Preppy that Nathan provides with the 4.5 ounce bottles and it sure is a better alternative to a disposable rollerball. But this isn't about pens its about the ink so I loaded it into a fairly stingy Pilot Murex that loves Pilot ink but not much else (partly just the EF, or really EEF nib can't have that much flow) and it worked great in both. And the color is, literally, eye popping. It definitely has water resistance, but obviously not UV or bleach. Mostly I've used it for margin notes and it is nice to have a color that pops off the page for that. Moreso than American Blue it is just a vibrant, almost flourescent, mid range blue. Used carefully given the unique properties it possesses, I suspect I'll manage to use it all up over time. To my eye, at least, it is very close dry to Waterman Florida Blue when wet.

Count me in as another lover of Baystate Blue. I have it in a Royal Blue Lamy Safari that has a 1.5mm italic nib. It's the blue I've always wanted and it can't possibly stain that pen. I haven't had any flow problems or clogging and I've had the pen filled for a month now.
The impact with that nib size and that brightness is something to behold! I only wish it were bulletproof.

Just received my bottle of BSB today at work. I promptly loaded up my Lamy 2000 and started doodling. It's a spectacular color. I suspect I'll have it loaded in at least one pen at all times.

I have lived with BSB for the past month in two Parker 51 Aerometrics, Pelikan M605 (solid blue) and a modern Aurora 88, I am sold, I love the colour. I am aware of the short comings, I don't leave documents out on the window sill for over a month and my journal and personal corraspondance is nowhere near any Javex.
