Hi All,
For some unfathomable reason, I find myself considering the purchase of one of the Waterman H-D pens: the "V-Twin" version. I gather the "engine" of the pen (no pun intended) is all Phileas.
Any thoughts on these pens? Any caveats? Any color recommendations - orange vs. chrome? (For example, what's the orange barrel made of?) I did an FPN search, but didn't turn up anything especially helpful.
Thanks,
Jon

Not all H-D pens are Waterman. I think there was a maker of H-D pens before Waterman and that H-D pens are now made by Retro 51. I have all 3 Phileas-based versions I was able to find on eBay on their way to me (mostly because I got all 3 for $30 shipped, which is cheaper than even the Kulturs I bought). I haven't seen any of those three called a "V-Twin" version. I understand one to have orange flames, one to have the American flag, and one to have an orange racing design.

Hi there,
I've seen those three as well;
here's a v-twin style, "powered by Waterman."
Cheers,
Jon

I do see the "Powered by Waterman" on the booklet, but I have to say that the pen looks a lot like the ones I have heard came before Waterman. From what I can tell, most of those must have come in gas tank shaped boxes. I'm certainly no expert, though.

Hi Jon,
I have one of these in orange. It is definitely a Waterman and definitely a nice pen to have. Even at the BIN price, these are a very good deal. I bought mine 3 or 4 years ago and paid more.

I have 2 "Powered by Waterman", one came in a gas tank and the other in a headlight. They feel well-made and are fun to write with. No skipping or starting problems and smooth on the paper. Maybe a bit heavy, but I like them. I ordered them from a local jewellery store and got them both in blue.

Well, I don't know anything about Harley-Davidson pens made by Waterman, but I do own one made by Stypen. It writes perfectly, but is a little too heavy for my liking.

The one you are talking about is cvalled the "Horizon". I have several (blue, orange, chrome; had black but gave as gift). Very good pens, Phileas-type nib. The Harley-D that comes in the "headlight" box is called Harley Davidson Combustion. I have 2 of those (uh, I have like, a bazillion Waterman pens). Go for it!

I have to say I'm pretty happy with the 3 Phileas-based ones I just got this week. I have them inked with Rohrer & Klingner Black, Noodler's Heart of Darkness, and Noodler's Baystate Blue. They're broad medium nibs and wet writers.

I have one of the Horizons in orange. It writes nicely although the nib is in medium and I prefer a fine. The only real issue I have with the pen is that it feels over balanced when posted. The cap is a substantial piece but pretty to look at.
