To all of you - wonderful enablers and experts, thank you a hundred times over!

I've always loved pens and paper, the act...the art of writing. Fountain pens have always fascinated me, but until today my only experiences have been a motley few from an arts and crafts store and a Lamy. I've enjoyed the Lamy, but haven't been satisfied with only one. About a week ago I finally sat down and began searching online, and then (long dramatic pause......) I found this site. This lovely, obsession nurturing, informative, priceless site. I was ignorant (perhaps blissfully so) of pens priced nicely enough to begin my exploration into the world of fountain pens. After learning how many options I have - thanks to all of you - I want a pen for each mood, for each writing project, every book I write notes in, for each day of the week, for seasons and holidays...there has to be more reasons, I just haven't found them yet.

Today I received the first two orders I made after furiously reading your reviews and agonizing over what pens I should get. That both orders arrived today has to be a sign biggrin.gif For hours I have been testing pens and three colors of noodlers ink. I am writing this with stained fingers (my first foray into converters and aerometric fillers was a bit clumsy but eventually sucessful) and having a great time testing each pen, over and over and over. I now have : Hero 329 old model, Hero 240, Kaigelu 222, Sensa Meridian, Jinhao 1300 multi color (yes, blingy and cheesy, but I like it. Gotta let that side out every now and again). Oh, and with the converter and noodlers, I like the Lamy a lot more than I ever did before. This is better than Christmas...with the exception of the smiles on my husband's and nephews faces when they open their presents.

Even better, my husband is now interested. He really likes the Lamy and Meridian (both are a bit too big for me, but not too big to be forgotten) and asked me to order him both Hero's so he can have a few of his own. Drat, I'm already going to have to make another order roflmho.gif Just so you can understand how amazing this twist is, my husband is a master mechanic, his hands are built to crush and force metal things into submission and he never thought much about pens until today and rarely wrote. He tested pens with me for 2 hours (I've been at it 5 so far) and talked about improving his handwriting. Like I said, better than Christmas!!!

I had to let you know how much your reviews and posts are appreciated. Enablers is too tame a word!

Here's another welcome from Austin.

Heading south to Connole Joe's tomorrow but I live up north.

Welcome to the world of fountain pens. I've been in love since my first Sheaffer in fifth grade.

They actually kept a big bottle of Scrip on the bookshelf back then.

Some people use Lava to get rid of the ink stains. I wear mine with pride.

Thanks for the welcome smile.gif I work in Austin, drive past Canoli Joe's everyday...but can only go every few months, the deserts do me in. I don't mind the inky fingers, but work will - I'll be trying the lava soap this weekend. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Annette, Welcome to FPN. It's great that you are bringing your husband over to "the dark side" too. More converts is a good thing. I've caught my wife surreptitiously fingering some of my pens when she thinks I'm not looking. The only thing that worries me is she seems partial to my Danitrio Tactical Carry II.

Lifesaver - This really is the dark side, and it's great! Thank you for the welcome. If you don't mind the suggestion, you might want to get the same Danitrio for your wife before she decides she REALLY likes yours. I'm learning there is something I can only describe as pen envy, an affliction my husband is currently suffering from. I'm now searching for pens he might like in the hopes of curing this. smile.gif

Welcome to the world of pens,Benold!!!
I think the pen lovers in the Austin area have a Pen Club organised- I have seen them announce meetings in the Clubs/Merings Sub-Forums.

Thanks Wolverine, I'm on my way to check it out smile.gif

I'm new to the whole fountain pen world, so I'm hoping to learn a lot from here. My husband makes pens, and the only fountain pens I've used recently are the ones he makes. He's a woodworker and makes his pens out of wood, stone, acrylic....

Welcome to the group! smile.gif
