At a recent pen show I nearly burst a nuron when I saw a familiar white star in a box of pens, selling for $20 each. I, not being a Montblanc expert, thought it was the real deal. A relatively clean, and cheap Montblanc. Much to my dissapointment the owner explained that is was a fake. Is there a way to identify between real pens and fake ones? Is there something I can look for. There is nothing I would hate more than buying a pen only to find it was an imposter. Although this is specifically for Montblanc what about other pens?

There are plenty of fake Duponts and Parkers out there, too. Some write pretty well, some do not. My fake Montblanc is an excellent writer (cost all of $14.00), while the fake Dupont (which is actually a closer copy) is virtually useless.

I took some amusement at a whole lot of faked montblancs that were sold along my local street and bought one 146 about a year ago. It looks okay from the outside but the nib is totally useless, to say the least. Well it still writes but it's nothing even if compared to a normal parker.
