Full Version: What would you pay for a Duofold?

Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering what sort of price is a good deal for a new Parker Duofold with black and platinum trim? I don't know if I'm keen on spending a lot of money on pens, but this one seems like a great deal. It's 302 Australian dollars, or about 270 US dollars (they retail here for $750), and is from a reputable dealer. My only other fountain pen (except for the disposables) is a Lamy Safari, and I guess I would like something a little bit more... well, something that's not so much like a nail to write with. So, should I buy it, or is there something else you would recommend instead (something better value for money, if possible)?

Hi Teutonic, I assume you're Australian? Where do you live? And you MIGHT get a better deal on eBay. Perhaps.

Hi Shangas,

I live in Tassie, and I don't think we have any good pen shops. sad.gif

Catch the Spirit over to Melbourne and have a poke around some of the shops here smile.gif

Hi,Teutonic, its a good deal for that price .But I'd rather remind you that there are a lot of replicas for the reknown trademarks' expensive models such as Mont Blanc,Pelikan etc.Be careful about that. You can rely on the dealer if you really trust him. You'd rather ask an expert who can tell you the difference. It'll be to your benefit. If you're fond of fountain pen writing surf on the net to find out cheaper but qualitative ones.Higher price is just for the company's reputation which does not guarantee the quality. So you spend your money for someone else's prestige. This is the advice of a long time pen collector....
If you have any further questions ,you can write ...

Good Luck.....

Check on ebay - there are plenty to chose from.
Also contact Peter Ford on his website - Melbourne vintage pens. He usually has a few.
Shangas
He does, they're listed on his website. (Search "Melbourne Vintage Pens" on google. It's the first result). They're usually pretty fairly priced. All pens are restored & ready to use.

Here in the U.S.A., the Duofold has a suggested retail of about USD$500. Discounts are common, but $270 sounds terrific, provided the item is genuine.
For myself, I wouldn't pay more than $30-$35 for a fountain pen because, (a) It's too easily misplaced (cool.gif Paying more doesn't get you better pen performance.
On the other hand, if you're a collector, there's really no limit on price.

270USD is a very good price for a new and genuine DUOFOLD PLATINIUM fountain pen, it will be difficult to find it for less, J.M.L.

Do you have some link?, for a new and genuine Fountain-pen? it seem very cheap, the retail price in France for a PARKER DUOFOLD CENTENNIAL GT Fountain pen is 436Euro = 636USD, so I am very interested to see these pens at 230USD, thanks, J.M.L.
