Full Version: Difference between Legacy I and II ?

Hi,

I received my NOS Sheaffer Legacy II in copper tone this morning (that I won on eBay for $120 incl. freight) , just as I were about to leave for work - do I need to tell you why I was late at office this morning rolleyes.gif

The pen is absolutely gorgeous! This is my first Sheaffer, but not the last. The nib really impresses me, in fact so much that I want to get another one right now - but a stub this time.

I've found a few pens with the stub nib, some are Legacy I and some are Legacy II. What's the difference? Is there different filling systems? (One of the reasons why I got a Legacy was the touchdown system).

Kind regards,
Karl

The filling system is the same on both, main differences are that the top of the cap and the 'blind cap' are rounded on the Legacy II (rather than squared off) and the cap clicks shut in a more positive way.

I think the colours are different (but some may be the same).

Both write identically and feel the same in the hand (at least the ones I have do).

By the way congratulations they are great pens.

Mindstorm Karl,

I think that is the pen that you outbid me on eBay. tongue.gif

Karl,

Absolutely no worries. The highest bidder wins.

But it is good to know the winner of the pen is a Sheaffer lover, as the pen will be loved. smile.gif

The nib is a "M", a rather wet one as well. But, it's not overly broad - it's rather like a FM in my book. The nib has some flex, but not the type of "line variation flex", more like the "spring" type of flex. There's a slight tooth to it but overall a very nice nib! I read so much positive reviews about Sheaffers nibs and I also think it's design is first class - those things made me feel that I just had to have one! I just love the inlaid nib design smile.gif

That's the spirit! I've lost so many eBay auctions myself, so I know how you felt as the time ran out...

Karl, Andy has explained the difference between the Legacy I and Legacy II, or at least all the differences I have ever noted. Personally, I like and prefer the squared blind cap of the Legacy I.

I want to comment that I have Sheaffer factory stub nibs on my Legacies and I love them. There is just one size, which I believe to be a B stub. The ink flow is reasonably wet and the line variation is good. The stubs really are more like italics than stubs, and I like that difference. I sometimes use a "dry" ink with my Sheaffer stubs to mediate the amount of wetness. Some of my favorite dry inks include J. Herbin Vert Olive and Poussier de Lune.

I hope you enjoy your Legacy.

Congratulation! LegacyII is my favorite. That's a beautifully pen, but I prefer a F nib, so I didn't bid on it... ... laugh.gif
