Hi,

JohanO, I refinished the barrel of the Parker 45 Flighter to give it back its brushed finish. I also replaced the nib and Parker gave me a new cap clutch.

It'd be interesting to hear the refinishing technique you used to restore the brushed finish - if you don't mind sharing, Dillon.

Hi Dillon,

Glad to hear that your 45 was "restored"to your liking! I'm still glad to be rid of it!
So we are both happy wink.gif.

Hi,

Gerry, I will tell if you tell me how you managed to polish the Esterbrook to mirror-smooth perfection. tongue.gif

Aw, c'mon. How'd you do it? Sandblaster? Wet/dry sandpaper? Got a pic?
Dillo
Hi,

Somebody has to give up a big refinishing tip before I give up my secret. In the meantime, send all the brushed pens that need refinishing to me.

Hi,

By the way, I recut the nib slit. The slit did not go up all the way to the breather hole. It is perfect now in every way.

I thought I did with the detailed description of the tool used to remove the stuck trim ring Dillon wink.gif, but if you want my polishing techniques, you only need to refer to the following posts...

Now, of course there's a bit of duplication there, but it should be pretty comprehensive in covering basically how I polish the plastic parts (and metal pieces as well) of pens, including your Estie.

Simply put, it was on a 6" wheel with white polishing compound, followed by a 6"wheel charged with Plastic Polishing compound followed by an application of Conservator's Wax.

And BTW, thanks for the compliment on the Estie finish.

Gerry

PS: Does all the above entitle me to a glimpse of the method you used to recut the nib slit - now that has me really interested... wink.gif
Dillo
Hi,

Recutting the nib slit is really a secret--a trade secret. Well, I used some 400 grit film and wrapped the barrel in it. I then turned the barrel around inside of the film.
