Oh Wow. I didn't see this post until I had already posted on the previous one. You'd think, for that price, he'd include postage.

Very nice I suppose. I think it's a little over the top w/ the diamonds, though. No way I would spend even 1/2 his asking price, even if I could afford it. Think of the awesome car you could buy for the $60,000. Then buy 3 or 4 really special FP's for the same price.

This is a pen that will not get a bid. If it were Started at $2500, with a reserve it might get some action.

WOW! Stunning pen. But shouldn't this be on the Overpriced pen topic?
I would not know whether to use this pen or put it in a safe.

anyone who would find themselves "needing to sell" this pen probably shouldn't have bought it

. Imagine taking a second mortage on the house with the idea of "flipping" the pen. Let me see...picture this:
"Honey...let me show you the neat pen I bought today"
"Honey...look what I found to put the kids college money in"
"Honey...we're going to need to start making payments on our home equity line cause I bought this pen..."

Hey Guys,
Something just came to my mind

........we could own this pen.......provided enough FPN members get together - if we each donated $10 US in to the pot........and purchased it............we could each have a 'share' ownership in the pen
And then sell it on........even if it halves in value.......we would each only lose $5 US dollars !......but the ownership would be worth it
What do you reckon?.

All that and it only comes with a medium nib?!

Adjusted Calculation : 2066 FPN Members each donating $30 US Dollars - We get ownership and a share in this magnificent gastronomic feast !

For that amount of money, I can go to Berlin, find accommodations in a really nice Gasthaus, and spend time visiting the real Brandenburger Tor. In my spare time I could go about town and buy several MB and Pelikan pens as souvenirs. Then return home happy with lots of money left over.
It is all relative, I guess.

Sure, pay for something like that if you want to get scammed. I'm not at all sure that this is a legit seller. Look at his exceptionally low number of feedbacks.
And who would sell something at that price on Ebay? Or somebody with that kind of money look for a pen of that value on Ebay? Give me a break!
This is all a bit fishy, it seems to me. But interesting...

Even if I took out a second mortgage, I don't think I could come close to affording that.

Did you see the presidential pen listed by the same seller? I kinda like that one better. It's slightly less expensive.

Please note: I merged a duplicate thread into this one. It had an identical title, and was started by the same original poster.

No but seriously-people that can afford this pen for them money isnt as problem.
For somebody to be able to throw this much money on a pen he cant be just rich he must be filthy rich.
I promiss you if I was as rich as Bill Gates I will buy this pen instantly.

I hear all of you on the outsized price, should it be on ebay, etc. However, here's another potential issue. Why did this guy even open the box? By opening it and displaying the contents, he has now decreased the number of potential buyers, or the value they might pay for it, by doing so. Some collectors, I have heard, are so particular that they want to buy only that kind of pen in a "hermetically sealed" box to preserve its value. They view it as an investment and put it in a vault. By opening it, the seller has now devalued the pen in some people's view. If he's a serious pen collector on that scale, he would have known that and figured out another way to picture the pen. After all, how can he now prove any assertion that the pen has not been dipped or filled?
Finally, for a series like that, wouldn't MB retain #1 for its own archives? Hmmmm.

We will not sell it, we will just ship it to each other, taking turns, so everyone of us will be able to know how it feels to write with it... And we will tell stories about the experience to the rest of our lives.
