Been awhile since falling into hoard of old Sheaffers.

Here is the latest go around. More fun than hour on the computer stalking individual pens :-)

No doubt as Daniel would expect me to say... this one made for a happy David.

Do look at the micro-essay via this link, for big pics and bad shmooze

34 years of collecting, I never found a hoard of anything.

The essay mentions surprising clips; can you point them out, along with other oddities? I like oddities.

oh david,

your journey to philadelphia was, apparantly, well worthwhile. besides the schmoozing, which i know you love, and selling pen, which you also adore; you found a "hoard" of "virgen" pens!! it think tht is your most favorite activity. it is a wonderful "hoard" that will give you and us much pleasure as you discover all the oddities in your new discoveries.

i really missed going to the philadelphia show. crybaby.gif i will be at long island. cloud9.gif

Good Lord, Isaacson...nice haul!

I think I noticed a handful of Signature Snorks (pencils and a pen or two) in there, too?

If you find any Snorks with an XF coneheaded nib, do send me an email/PM, would you?

Congratulations David! I was unable to swing to NYC bud had a great time in DC this Xmas. That's a big Sheaffer haul!

Didn't i find you enough oddities already???

Didn't show one part of the hoard (20 Parkettes/Challengers- go figure). One of those was the first in hand "convertible" fluted Parkette Deluxe. Been expecting to see one for two years, but still wasn't sure would ever see one.

Other surprises to me. Couple of the pens/pencils (iirc) are short slender models with radius clip- ebonized pearl pen and carmine pencil maybe with wide band. Both have long radius clips. I guess i expected short radius clip.

Hi,

I'm strongly suspect there are some Snorks with XF Triumph nib in the pile. Heck, probably have a couple restored as such on the website. Happy to chat further once i catch up on life. Neec couple days to catch up on life.

That's a very nice grouping- though I'll admit I'm partial most of all to those Balances. Those are some gems.

Might be down. Occasionally happens for few minutes. Do try again in a bit.

For a time, slender short pencils were offered with both short radius clips (to match ladies' pens) and long radius clips (positioned to go with the Admiral for those preferring a shorter pencil); in Carmine, they would be designated model symbols SVF and SVC respectively. I should also observe that normal patterns for clips seem not to hold on items with non-standard cap bands. Ebonized Pearl pen is likely ~mid '35-~mid '36 D53VC with correct clip, and I suspect it has a top-numbered Feathertouch nib.

Interesting. So short slender Ebonized Pearl was correct with long clip. Did that persist throughout the run?

Generally, it seems short slender pens with radius clips got shortened clips after a year or two.

I got to see the haul first hand. It was pretty cool. I mean, they're all just a bunch of Sheaffers, but that many at one time is so ever fun to encounter. Kirchh, in 34 years, you didn't get anything like that? c'mon, you had to in those years, get them by the brown paperbag. I got since 1989 in this, and I remember when 100 dollars on a weekend would by you 20-30 pens, and good ones....

I thought it was real cool seeing all those pens packed like they were. I especially thought the gf crests and such were particularly cool.

Can you imagine if it was a haul of chiltons like that? my heart just stopped!

Well, my starry-eyed friend, back in the day there weren't yet collections to snag! I did pick up small groups at a time -- maybe a half-dozen or so. But never a cache of a hundred in one lot, or anything even close. But I can't complain; I got my share of bargains, because for a decade or so, I was Sumgai, in retrospect.

Hey, I was happy to say, I just happened into a same size or large quantity of Sheaffers, just like David I, here...

I will post a picture tomorrow, but let me say, it is the single largest quantity of pens I ever got. I think it is at least 300-500 pens, parts, etc..

real rich in Sheaffers, all makes represented, even some oddball stuff, but the Sheaffers make up a large percentage. Looking, i spotted a PFM, a few GF early pens, a bunch of 30's - 40's, a couple of flattops, etc... the beauty is it was priced right...

Oh, and the RHR Conklin Crescent filler in there was a nice bonus...

Rick Krantz
here's a lil picture of part of the take...

going thru it, I found two GF early sheaffer ringtops, a black PFM 1, a brain pattern wahl, a rhr crescent filler, some OS flattops, a bunch of 100 year pens, even an OS, couple boxes of early waterman, Aiken Lambert, Wahl, some parker, even an Evans. It truly is a cool group of stuff.
