Ok so being a techie type I decided to make a spreadsheet that shows the range of "readily" available loose paper that has either been recommended on here or that seems like it might be comparable.

I've so far got papers from Staples, Office Depot, and Costco. I've avoided the truly premium paper offerings such as the specialty papers offered for archival inkjet photo printing which cover a vast range of quality, construction and price. Some of them I'm sure would be fabulous FP papers, but I'm sure I couldn't afford to write on them, at least not at the rate I write.

I stayed with loose paper since it leaves lots of options open for how they are used, and for people who are looking to make their own notebooks or pads. The people who are happy with "premade" seem to have plenty of options already.

As you look at the table you'll notice that there are comments and a lot of blanks. I welcome additional papers to add or more data for comments. Also I'd be happy to provide the US data for cost as well if someone feels up to collecting it. smile.gif

So here's that table in the hopes that others may find it useful as it stands and in the future it may provide a ready shopping list for those who are just starting out so they don't have to buy 1000's of pages to find out which ones are good.

Thanks for the information. Before I understood the importance of paper, I purchased a very nice faux-alligator leather journal cause it looked good. The paper was horrible. Terrible feathering with all my daily writers. This, of course, is a minor source of joy for most of us since it meant I needed more pens. Dangit. Yesterday, I found a used slim striped Sheaffer unknown with a fine point. I paid $10 for this, a green Arnold and Waterman. The Shaeffer is a noisy little sucker but puts the nicest line of ink on this paper. I'll have to get some mylar to smooth it a bit, but my quest for a journaling pen has come to an end.

Next time I need copy paper, I'll try your recommendation.

I need to update the file, as I have some more data points.

I found some 'copier' papers we had around work that handled fountain pen ink nicely.
Domtar Colors - Multipurpose Smooth pink and blue. 20/50 lb.

Great for letter writing. I printed off some black lines to lay under the paper for keeping things straight when I write with my fountain pen.

Another type that has been really good is Ampad Envirotech.... 100% recycled, comes in lined 3 hole tablets, spiral bound, looseleaf... holds ink really well without feathering.
