Hi all

What are Your views on this new Schiffer book by João Pavão Martins, Luiz Leite e António Gagean.

In my view its a good reference from its photographs but lacks in info bout the pens, mainly the more obscure examples photographed.

The authors seem to be partial on the Penol brand, profuselly photographed.

There was other forum on the issue but dealt mainly in the "getting the book" aspect.

Please state Your views.

I own the book, however, I haven't had a chance to really read much of the text, but there are photos of pen brands and models I've never seen elsewhere (in print).
I like the "timeline" idea of the book, but it's rather sad to see the # of fountain pens makes and models dwindle over the decades... sad.gif

I saw this book at the DC show. It is a very attractive book and builds on a lot of what we know. I don't think books are that cutting edge in that respect. I appreciate the desk bases shown in the Sheaffer section however, they have the dates somewhere around a decade or more late. They were good classic bases and, I believe, I knew the catalogue reference to each on sight. Why they were put in with just a guess to the dates strikes me as odd as this information is available. As general books go it looked fine but, for my purposes, I'm a bit past general reference books.
