Full Version: Storage conditions for ink?

Is there any information out there about the preferred storage conditions for ink? Like (I suspect) a number of people, I've accumulated far more ink than I'm likely to use in the near future, and it would be nice if it lasted into the far future.

I just tossed a bottle of Private Reserve that I found to have mold floating on the top, and while it could easily have been a fluke, it started me thinking about storage conditions.

To date, all my ink has simply been living in a desk drawer -- out of the light, but at room temperature (in Tucson in the summer, that can often mean into the mid-80s F). I expect this is typical, if on the warm side, and that inks have generally been formulated with this in mind. But then, that's merely an assumption on my part; can anyone shed some light on whether it's a good one or not?

We've discussed before here, those darn threads are around here somewhere.

You should take typical precautions with you ink:
1.) Keep it out of sunlight, particularly if it is not packaged in brown or black bottles.
2.) Avoid temperature extremes
3.) Keep it capped to avoid environmental contaminants.

If you do this, the shelf life of your ink should be measured in years, if not decades.
