Hi,

I just received my order which has Noodlers RedBlack and a sample of PR Black Cherry.

I quickly tried both yesterday, and was surprised by the result. I'm not sure I could tell them apart if I didn't see them side by side.

Are they supposed to be so similar? Have other people tried them?

Thanks!

I can't say anything about Red-Black, but I can say I find that I have a similar reaction to PR Black Cherry and the FPN-exclusive Tulipe Noire.

They are fairly similar, aren't they?

I bought a bottle of P.R Black Cherry locally, actually exchanged for a bad bottle of Herbin's Cacao du Bresil. Then, I ended up swapping for a bottle of Noodler's Red-Black. They're different, slightly, but without writing samples in front of me, I'm hard-pressed to say how. I think the P.R. has a bit more red-purple to it, where the Noodler's is more burgundy-brown. Of course, the nib width and wetness make a big difference, as does shaking the Noodlers before filling. Without a shake, it tends to be burgundy, and a bit watery.

I believe the Noodler's will be more permanent, as the black is Nathan's standard bulletproof, and will remain after the red washes away. I know the P.R. ink has little if any water resistance, though the saturated nature means something legible will likely remain after short immersion or splashing.

I like them both, though, even though they tend to dry a bit slowly for my leftie writing.

Best,
Jon

I don't own Noodler's Red-Black, but I find do own Black Cherry. It is rather dark, but it can come out rather lighter in some pen/paper combos, though not too much. I would imagine it's purpler than straight up "red-black," but I have no experience with it. smile.gif

edit: changed most of it, twas thinking of the wrong ink, lol
