I have bought a Pilot Capless NOS (without packaging and papers) on eBay. Upon using only for a while, I saw scratches forming on the plunger. These scratches are formed when the plunger is pressed and 'rubbed' against the pen barrel. I have been using the pen for about 3 days, and I see that the side of the plunger are all straight-lined scratches.

Is this normal? Are the lines are more obvious because my pen is of gold trim?

thanks,

P_dog,

My VP is an older faceted model, maybe 25 years old when I bought it in all but new condition. I have been using it about a year and a half and do not see any marks.

On my pen, the thing comes apart fairly easily. IF those marks appeared I would pull the 'button' and look for causes. BUT, I am very mechanical and have little fear of diving into the unknown.

My old faceted Capless has a lot of scratches. It has a chrome-plated push button and was used daily for almost 10 years. I also have a few older stainless steel Capless pens with chrome-plated buttons which are basically brand new and they are already scratched.

Gold plating is softer than chrome so I would not be surprised to see the button scratched after a little while.

The plunger on my GT capless shows a lot of scratches as well.

If there is contact between two surfaces, there are bound to be scratches. I do see scratches on my VP too but it's not obvious. Enjoy yuor pen.
