They were starting to take over my desk. Now the pretty bottles are all on display, and easy to find, and easy to get to!

A modern Morandi!

OOOHHHH! And there is PLENTY of room! You could double the amount you have and still have room for a few more!

Since I took that picture I also put the cups and bottles from my mixing kit up. That helped fill the space.

Part of me wants to bring my Noodler's Black back from the studio so it can take its place on the shelf, but I need it there where I can use it. And I have Polar Black up there on the shelf soooo... I'll have to live with it! If I buy another Noodler's Black it will be either X-Feather or Old Manhattan, not just another bottle of plain Noodler's black.

I like this because it does two things: gets clutter off of my desk and makes my living room a little bit more "mine" the way a piece of artwork or special furniture would.

Since I also live in the bay area, I'm wondering what the earthquake plan is.

The shelf is immediately above a nice, soft couch. If the earthquake hits while I'm watching TV, I might get hit on the head by a few bottles of ink.

The other plan is living in a house built on bedrock. When Loma Prieta burned down the Marina, collapsed the Cypress Structure and damaged the Bay Bridge, I had a bunch of beer bottles up on a 3" wide ledge about a foot and a half from my ceiling. Nothing fell. I'm a big fan of NOT living on landfill.

18 bottles of ink on the wall, 18 bottles of ink...

Take one down and splash it around, 17 bottles of ink on the wall.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

Nice shelf.

I see we share some of the same taste in inks, as well. I really like your shelving. Cool looking and more practical than mine. Nice going!

Very nice!

I made one in December out of some pine scraps and it came out OK but only about half of my ink fits. Cleared out a small drawer, though! Kind of a Shaker style (not seismic).

Man, I wish I had those skills. The ink is definitely taking over my desk. I see Lie de the is a popular choice!

What a great idea! And wonderful pieces of art all round!

I think of earthquakes when I walk past the shallow bookcase where my inks are stored. Our last significant quake was a 6.8; if the movement had been east-west, rather than north-south, all of my inks would have ended up on the floor. I should move them.

Move them to where? The floor? roflmho.gif Just kidding. Not living in a specified earthquake area I'm not sure but I'm wondering if you could put something around the edge that would act as a railing or could you put some non-skid fabric under the bottles? Moving them would work but just thinking of other, possibly easier, alternatives.

Both of those are strategies used for earthquakes, but in the case of a 6.8 that's close, a railing might not be enough. For example, I live about a mile from the San Andreas. That said, that particular fault has had two 6.0+ quakes in the last 20 years, so it's probably relieved enough stress not to have something more major soon.
