I'm wondering if anyone has tried to reseal an ink cartridge after filling it with their preferred ink. For instance, in my VP I can get the most ink into a cartridge, but it's not always convenient to fill an cartridge. So is there a way to have prefilled and sealed cartridges ready?

I've never done it but I've always wondered whether you could plug the cartridge with wax.

I wonder if you could seal the top with a dollop of hot-glue. When you want to use the cartridge, just peel the glueball off of the opening and insert the opened cartridge.

I have used a hot glue gun to seal a refilled cart.
It does work. I've refiled 4 carts taped them upright in a small box and they traveled by air very well.
Do be sure to completely remove the 'glue-ball' before sticking it on the feed.

I tried sealing wax and never could get all the wax off easily enough.

What I did was to poke to little holes in the BASE of a new cartridge with a syringe, and suck out the ink. I would then refill the cart with my own ink, and seal the small holes by passing the base through a flame briefly and then taping over with tape. Kept these for "emergencies"

I've re-used carts by filling with a syringe, but never tried SEALING them! And I have a hot glue gun. Wonder if it would work?

Works well enough for me, even though I have an unfortunate tendency to burn my fingers with the glue...

We've talked about this before. Dr. Grace sent me some parafilm and this works quite well for re-sealing cartridges. I've gone so far as to seal a couple, put them in a baggy and carry them in a purse for several weeks. No problems. We talked at the time about providing swatches to folks but nothing ever came of it. Not enough interest I guess.

parafilm is made for jobs like this and I found it to do the job very well.

I wonder if teflon tape would also work. That's a little more common than parafilm.

How about sealing up a refilled cartridge with a little rubber stopper? McMaster-Carr sells rubber stoppers with a small end 1/16" in diameter and large end 1/8" dia., 5/8" long. The hole in the end of a short international cartridge appears to be a little over 1/16". You can search for "stopper" or the part number (6448K16). There are larger stoppers if you use cartridges with larger openings.

While you're there you might want to look at 1 oz. wide mouth polypropylene bottles (42905T22) and 1/4 oz. snap-lid polypropylene vials (5274T65). I have, just once, mailed ink in both of those.

They also carry dispensing (blunt) needles for syringes. A 2" long, 17 gauge needle is part number 6710A24.
