Has anyone tried scenting their own ink? I am anxious to try, but don't want to ruin my favoirte hero pen:)
Thanks!

eureka.gif How about burning a stick of incense whenever you write?

Or a candle... smile.gif I've not tried scenting my own. The one bottle that I have (from Pendemonium) that is scented only seems to really scent the nib, anyway. All the pens I've put that ink in (Monaco Red) still have a lingering strawberry scent, and the paper never smells. It is cool to have a sweet-smelling nib, but it's not the effect I expected at all when I ordered it. I suspect that if you put enough scent in to actually make the scent last on paper, it would do something baaaddd to the ink? blink.gif

Potential problem here...what if...you really tie one on drinking strawberry daquiris and every time you smell strawberry, it revives those memories of that horrid night (actually the horrid morning after)?

Gotta say...your avatar is really wicked looking!

Hi,

Thanks for telling how that Pendemonium scenting worked out. smile.gif

You guys are lucky, both of my accounts squash my current avatar to the same pixel size as the one I uploaded.

I'm just curious - what would you scent it with? (Not the kind of scent (rose, lavender, lilac...) but the actual medium. I know there's a better word, but I can't think of it at the moment.) Can you buy scent made just for ink?

In another thread I mentioned having a bottle of J. Herbin's Violet scented ink. It's a lovely ink and in a wet writer on Clairefontaine paper will give off a heavenly scent - but not for long. As I said earlier, imo, it's more for the writer than the, uh, writee. tongue.gif

Being ignorant here... sorry.

Erm... which is why I'll never order Goldschlager-scented ink. laugh.gif sick.gif

I played a bit with scenting some ink with lavender essential oil - it mostly worked. In order to get the scent to linger on the paper, I had to add a fairly large amount, which made the ink misbehave (not skippy, just... off. Diluted the color somewhat, as well.) (I don't remember the exact ratios, but I think I may have written about it on here before - I'll search for it in a few.)

I was afraid that the EO would melt something, so I did it in a school pen, which now smells faintly of lavender no matter what I do to it, though it's otherwise intact and happy.

I haven't tried it since, though I'm sure I'll try again with one of my BPAL blends. (Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab - EO-based perfumes. Utterly addictive.)

And no, I never did get around to trying that burgundy ink, though I've a suspicion that it smells like Old Spice or something equally ack.

Thanks to everyone for your replies! It seems that incense is the way to go, as I am not willing to sacrifice even my cheapest hero in the name of fragrant writing. :bunny1:

Hi Dillon,

The avatar pic is one of the items you can upload straight from your computer. The limits are the type of picture it is supposed to be (.jpg, .gif, .png if I am not mistaken), the pixel size (max. 140 X 140), and the file size (max. 125 KB or thereabouts).

In the Controls option where you manage avatars, there is an option to browse for the file on your own computer. That'll allow you to upload that particular picture, with the above restrictions, of course.

HTH, warm regards, Wim

Hi washati,

Welcome on board of this ship full of nutty fountain pen enthousiasts! biggrin.gif

Just for your information: Herbin makes scented inks, in several flavours. The MB rose scented ink for Valentine's day this year, was made for MB by Herbin.

HTH, warm regards, Wim
