I'd absolutely love a Hemingway writers edition, but it seems almost impossible to get hold of. Really, its one of the most beautiful pens I think they've released.

I dont think the pen is that rare to get.I do see it every so often for sale. The problem is the price this pen is sold for-absolutly insane but if I would be Bill Gates I'd buy me 5 just for the heck of it.
By the way Nathan your picture in your avatar is a bit scary

That Tea Time does have a very very nice look. Very classic. I'd buy that over an MB any day of the week.

Over what MB pen would you buy it ? over the Hemingway ?
Yep as I said it is way to expensive but if somebody would offer me either the Hemingway or the Tea time I'd go for the Hemingway because :
1.Its the real deal and not a pen that looks the same.
2.It would be worth MUCH more.

Just to add a contrary opinion, I've never even considered buying a MB. Call it a "snubbing of the nose" to mere reputation. I realize that I'm new to this hobby, plus I've never used one, just held them at the store, so my opinion is severely skewed. To me, it's kinda like buying a Harley-Davidson M/C, just because it's a H-D. Will it get you where you want go? YES. Does it look cool? YES. Is it a very popular M/C? W/O A DOUBT! Is it way overpriced, and not live up to it's reputation? ALSO, W/O A DOUBT! If I'm way off base, just say so, but w/ something substantive to back it up. I guess I'm just much more impressed by function than image. Maybe my opinion will change once I write with one. I must admit that the looks of the Starwalker, and the LE Charles Dickens and Edgar Allan Poe do intrigue me.

I respect your opinion.
Just try a MB pen and see how you like it.My MB Virginia Woolf is my second best writer.
This pen is a F I N E writer.I start making baby noises when I use it (sadly I use it very very little).
It is expensive but not more then any other LE pen.
Try a second hand MB 146.These are excellent writers, they do cost a pretty penny but not much more then the Pelikan M800.
I would judge MB pens and not the maker.I am not a big fan of MB's sale department but I am totaly in love with their pens.
Dont forget my 149 is my "QUEEN"

goodguy, I will certainly do that. I guess part of my disdain also comes from seeing "posers" who really have no appreciation for fine writing instruments, but get a MB, just to have that snowcap sticking out of their pockets, as a status symbol. The ones I mentioned in my post, I'd love to try. Maybe I'll get my hands on one day.

In my opinion these posers and MB sales department makes lots of good people like you stir away from MB pens.
MB pens are not the only good pens out there and maybe not the best out there but they do make excellent writing devices and anyone that wouldnt give a MB pen a fare chance just because these 2 reasons writen above is loosing a chance to try great pens.
Of course if you try a MB pen and still not like it then I will respect you for keeping an open mind and giving the pen a chance.

Hi Tony,
I bought a simple slim black Meisterstuck FP at a sale as a graduation gift to myself many years ago. It was about US$150 back then and have been using it ever since whenever I have a shirt pocket.
It's really smooth and it writes immediately even though it has been kept capped for weeks. I looked at the nib point under 50x magnification and it was mirror smooth with a couple of dinks here and there. The nib point of my parker is not as shiny and correspondingly doesn't write as smooth.
I'd recommend trying one of the lower price ones, I'm sure u will change your mind

I think that the lower priced models using the same nib as as the higher end ones would write just as well. After the basic functionality, a lot of the $$$ go into marketing and decorative precious materials to make the pen look really impressive. This caters to different groups of people with different needs.
If I had all the funds and time in the world, I'd buy one of each model of every brand. But alas, I find that at most, I seriously write with only 2 FP (even though I have a couple of pens of sorts). The preferred MB and recently a Parker Esprit for days that I don't have a shirt pocket.
Have fun!

I've come to the realization that, for various documents, I'm going to carry around Noodler's black in something, and I don't want it to stain my celluloid pens. Thus, oddly, I may get the black pen I have snubbed in the past.
I'm torn, really -- I've considered getting the retro throwback pen, a Woolf, and a 146 or 149 in platinum. I definitely want a piston filler, so the historical is out for that. Given that I like the style, I'll probably get the Woolf.

You really should try a Montblanc, because there is no way to know if they live up to their reputation without actually experiencing one. And like all pen manufacturers some models are better than others. If you were to try a 146/147 or a 149 I think you would quickly get an idea of what Montblanc enthusiasts find so wonderful about these pens. Doesn't mean you will agree but I have a feeling you would find it a pleasure to write with.
I would rather Montblanc was not so well known because every time I pull one out to use I feel there are people who think it is just a status symbol and that I am trying to show off. I can use a much more expensive pen than my 147 at work and not worry about it at all.

For 2008, I already have another 149 on hold. I was fortunate to find a seller who is kind enough to allow me to pay for it over two months. A 149 with a B nib was really my priority and goal for the year. I am fortunate to have located one so quickly.
I sure would like a Hemmingway, too. But the price is outrageous. The recent reviews of the Virgina Woolf have me very interested in one of those. I like large 149-sized pens, and I like the Proust LE that is based on the 149. A lot will depend on availability and finances. I will just have to let the year grow older and see what happens.

Planning, and I did it. Twice. I've been looking at the MB Donation Pens on-line and was in NYC last week, and so I went to Joons hoping to buy a Solti, but it was at another of their shops. But this particular Joons shop had the Leonard Bernstein, at a good price, and so I bought it. It has a fine nib that is as smooth as my best Omas pens. Today, a Bach Donation Pen arrived from an e-Bay seller in Omaha. This pen, which has a sepia-colored barrel and coral-colored cap, has a medium nib, which I filled with Omas sepia ink. It's as smooth as the Bernstein.

In time, I think I'd like to get an Alexander Dumas (father). I love the design on the nib. I'm also searching for an Agatha Christie. I gotta pay off some other pen purchases first though.

Yes, at Trump Plaza. The clerk, Cindy, was very friendly and knowledgeable. The Bernstein was the only Donation pen she had.

I've had several Meisterstucks and on one of them I ended up shattering the end section when it rolled off of a counter, which sorta turned me off of Mont Blancs. Then I got a good deal on a Starwalker BP and then a Steel/CF BP and I'm hooked again. Just recently bought a Starwalker Rollerball so now I need a Starwalker FP. Then I guess I'm going to need both a rollerball and FP to complete my Steel/CF series...
