i've been looking for a good red-brown/rust/burgundy colored ink recently. something that is suitable for everyday use. i've been looking at Private Reserve's copper burst, and it looks like it might be good, but i'd just like some other suggestions. thanks.

Hard to find a better choice, IMHO. I really like it. See recent review in ink review database.

Well, actual iron rust occurs in various shades from a bright orange to blackish brown but one of those shades is matched by Noodlers Antietam ink.

You have a point there. I was going to also suggest PR Orange Crush. BTW, I am eagerly looking forward to getting in my Noodler's Antietam, as well as Widow Maker, and Lexington Gray.

How about the FPN Galileo Manuscript Brown ink that was made to match the rust-colored ink? Just a thought. wink.gif

BTW, Wim did a very good and exhaustive review of the ink. It's good stuff, imho.

There is a review in the Ink Review forum right now for a new J. Herbin ink called "Rouille d'Ancre," "rust of the anchor." It is a redish-orange. You might take a look at that review.

yes, i did see the review, and it looks like a nice "brown", but i think i'm looking for something a bit more reddish. not too red, because i want it to be very legible and not too "out there" if i hand in a paper or something with it. it would also be used for journaling and such...

i see the Antietam review as well. i was considering that one as well, but after seeing the pic it looks a bit too orange for me. maybe if there was something like that but a bit more red than orange...heh.

Noodler's SwishMix Semiola Sepia, availably only from Swisher Pens.
A rust-colored brown with excellent flow, and waterproof too.

Noodler's Cayenne is on the red side of the red-orange mix, but it's probably too light for the darkness that I always associate with rust. Should be a review of it floating around in Ink Reviews. Just a thought.

Southpaw is right about FPN Galileo Manuscript Brown. I use many "brown" inks, including Copper Burst, and Galileo instantly reads as "rust".

As southpaw mentioned, have a look at FPN GMB:

And here are scans of many browns, plus Cayenne, on different papers, maybe this helps:

Pelikan Brilliant Brown reminds me of rust - but I didn't try many inks yet.

Just got Copper Burst yesterday. It is a very beautiful color with nice shading.

While I am not a huge fan of brown ink, PR Copper Burst is a great color. You can't go wrong.

I've got to throw in a vote for PR Copper Burst too. It looks so much like a rust it almost feels gritty when I write with it like there's rust particles in it. (purely psychological, the ink is fine).

There is a link a the top of the Marketplace, and at the top here too, if I am not mistaken.

Warm regards, Wim
