Yesterday I got myself a bottle of Waterman's Havana Brow. It is one of the older bottles, the one with yellow-brownish bottle box.

But all I get is this green gray color, with juuust a hint of red in it.

Bad ink?

That's definitely the wrong color for Havana Brown! It even looks grayer than my vintage brown!

Waterman Brown is my "go to ink." I use it everyday, and it looks like you've got a bad bottle. Definitely.

I'm no expert but it looks watered down.

Oh yeah. That's a bad one.

Definitely NOT what mine looks like. I'd try exchanging it for another one if you can.

That does look like a bottle of bad ink, but I personally kind of like that hue!

Check out this thread:
Waterman Browns

I suspect you may have a bottle of the old Waterman Brown and not a bottle of Waterman Havana Brown.

Havana Brown is much darker and saturated. Try shaking the bottle to see if it makes any difference. By your description of the box, I think you bought the vintage Waterman Brown.
DrPJM1
That does not look anything like MY Havana Brown.

Your ink is either bad or mislabeled. My Havana looks much different (is much more reddish).

Well, here's the bottle, and the box. They ARE vintage, but the label says "Havana" too...

When I turn the bottle upside down, there IS a bit of residue on the bottom. When shaken, the color is the same.

Also, the ink reeks of Phenol, so it is some years old...

Nice photo, Nenad, thanks!
superfly
well, not bad, considering I took it with my cell phone...

Is that the bottle you have, artaddict?

Does anyone know when these bottles date back to? I bought an identical bottle of Blue-Black just yesterday.

Thanks in advance. Bye.

Here's my bottle:

Oh, I see that your bottle is not labeled Havana. But, nevertheless, if the sticker should represent the ink color, either Waterman is way off, or their older ink is very unstable.

hmm, I wonder if I could damage my pens if using "oxidized" ink in them...

Your sample reminds me a bit of the JH Cacao du Bresil - but perhaps even greyer...
