Hello, all! I am from Singapore. I am not really a collector...yet. I'm still a student, and I have to rely on my savings to buy pens. I like reading and cooking. I have always wanted a black Parker 51 Special Edition, but I don't really know how much does one cost, and I can only pay by credit card or by posting cash. Well, I've said my piece. Please leave your comments!

I believe there are some nice pen stores in Singapore. No idea about the specifics. But hello and welcome.

I'm not sure why, but the Parker '51' Special Edition isn't normally recommended as a pen to buy. I think it's because it wasn't made along the same lines as the original '51', so when it's broken, it's harder to repair.
I'd go for a REAL '51' from the period when it was made (1941-1972).

I am aware that the Special Edition wasn't made along the lines of the Parker 51, but I'm not sure what the features of a Parker 51 are. I've always wanted a Parker 51 Special Edition-I don't quite know why. The only pen I own is a Parker Frontier.

hi Darrenimo,
Greetings from a faraway Singaporean to another.

I am just curious to know how old you are. During my school days in Singapore, I have never met anybody who uses a fountain pen.
Having said that, I have also not known anyone who uses fountain pens here.

Hi from across the channel in Jakarta.
If you really want the Parker 51 Special Edition, scratch the itch and get it, when you can. But do read up on the vintage Parker 51s, too. I remember reading that there's a dealer in Singapore who has a few, somewhere near Chinatown. If you're interested, I'll dig up the details.
Welcome to FPN!

Hello from another student. For 51s, I've heard it said that Fook Hing in Bras Besah sells working ones(NOS or restored I'm not sure), and the Chinatown store sells old pens in need of restoration. There aren't many stores here, but at least you have the option of buying internationally. And if you don't mind not being able to test pens but at a great price, there is always Mustafa's. How does the Frontier write?

Thanks for all the replies! I am 14 years old, I REALLY want the Parker 51 Special edition (but that's going to wait till September), and the Frontier writes perfectly. I like the responsiveness of this forum. It just seems so friendly.

Yes, the parker Frontier is such a nice pen.
Btw, I am just wondering, are there any other pens you would like to have other than Parker 51 Special edition?

Yeah, if you don't mind sharing, why the special interest in Parker 51 Special Edition?
I see that you have posted on the forum marketplace to ask for a 51 Special Edition. Hope the angpoh money that you will collect in the coming Chinese New Year will be enough, or at least contribute significantly to your savings, to get the pen.
Good luck!

To me, the Parker 51 Special Edition exudes a kind of simple elegance, both plain and beautiful at the same time. And the fact that it looks like the Parker 51 doesn't hurt, either. The angpoh money won't contribute to my savings my parents will only allow me to take a maximum of $50 from the total-the rest is to go to my bank account. Good luck to you, too.

Hahaha!! February 7th, 2008. Year of the Rat. Purpledog, you're damn right I'll be saving up all my angpoh money. FOR PENS!! (my angpoh haul has grown annoyingly slim since a few years ago. I used to get bucket-loads but since two years ago, it's shrunk. Perhaps this year I'll get a nice haul). Best of luck, Darrenimo in getting your SE 51.
