Full Version: A Surprise Pen - Piazza Navona

I don't have my indoor photo stuff set up so these pics aren't terribly good. But i wanted to share them anyway.

Some time ago I sent a nice-ish pen to an FPNer. First for nib tweaking, then I pretty much decided he should keep it since I rarely if ever used it. Well, this arrived in my mail last week with no indication of who sent it but i did make an educated guess. So... this was sent in part as a "trade" and in part (because I think this is somewhat more valuable) as a "housewarming" gift. Otherwise I doubt I would ever have found a way to convince hubby that I needed a $200 pen. smile.gif

a little more background - i almost paid for Lynn's PN he had for sale. Guess it was a good thing I didn't commit to that. smile.gif

I know some find it too understated. I find it gorgeous and much like my "Honey" I find I spend a lot of time just staring at it. That they made the celluloid look so much like marble/stone is fascinating to me.

oh yeah.. the pic..

a closer shot

and this one isn't a great nib pic but it shows the coloring on the barrel a little better.

Nice! What better housewarming/Christmas gift can one ask for?

Wow! Nice surprise gift. Care to pass the joy along, especially since you're having such a tough time figuring out what ink to put in it??? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I do not drool. That would be undignified. I'm just sweating a lot at the corners of my mouth.

Okay, so I'm drooling. That's a seriously pretty pen. You should use it in good health, as they say in my neck of the woods.

sure... while I'm at it I'll send along some 400s and a vintage pen or two that are languishing.

i need to try to take some pics of just the barrel so i can get a nice focus and depth on the material. It isn't "shimmery" like I've heard the Athens and Shanghai are. But that would sort of defeat the intention I think. But as you can sort of see in the nib pic, the colors are beautiful subtle and complex.

i definitely will use it... just still seeking that just right ink. I have some J. Herbin Amber that with a little grey-ish brown added might make a nice sepia-like tone.

Gorgeous pen. When you can and feel up to it, how about a full-blown review?

*Nice* pen. Looks like a classy box, too.

Where *is* the Piazza Navona?

The Piazza Navona is in Rome and is best known for what is considered Bernini's most fantastic fountain, La Fontana dei Fiumi (The Fountain of Rivers). I was there three years ago, and it is truly magnificent.

Oddly enough, my girlfriend is studying in Florence for the semester, and she is heading to Rome this weekend, particularly to see this piazza and fountain. She's an Art History major and devout fan of Bernini. Maybe I should get one of these in her absence biggrin.gif

What a nice surprise, KCat! That last shot does show quite a different color on the barrel and it's a nice color. smile.gif

Happy penning,
Ann

So what is she sending home to you from the Pineider shop on the Piazza della Signoria?

Actually, nice paper is available from less pricey places elsewhere in the city.

Michael

thanking you for the information and green with envy at anyone else's being in Florence when I'm not, but noting that the green emoticon is green with some other feeling

"Honey" is going to get jealous of the Piazza Navona... laugh.gif

Nice pen, KCat!

Hi KCat,

Congratulations!. That is a very nice pen indeed! Not entirely to my taste, but somehow in the pics it looks a lot better than the one I saw in a shop over here biggrin.gif. Of course we do expect a full blown review now, with lots of pics... laugh.gif

Warmest regards, Wim

Listen to him, KCat. Just cause he has a new fangled whizbang camera with tilts and swings and super close up abilities, he thinks everybody can crank out Bill Riepl type pictures, now. rolleyes.gif

yeah - like that'll ever happen.

i'm in a bit of a quandry here. i no longer have a large desk area to set up my light tent even if I did take even marginally good pics.

not sure how to deal with that yet. The island in the kitchen? Yeah, hubster would love that. not
