Hi,
Strange that I found this thread....but it was I who purchased this pen (check the winning bidders ID). I think I got an awesome deal for a buy it now..I queried the seller about a few things before I pushed the button, anxiously waiting his reply before anybody else got to it...Yes the picture was bad but you could make out that it had a tri-toned nib..making this a "vintage" #149, so I asked when he bought it...what the piston threads were like, Germany or W.Germany on the clip ring, any serial number, etc..He replied quickly with all the answers that I liked. I pulled the trigger!
This is what I got...probably an early 1970's #149, has black resin piston threads, tri-toned nib, piston filler ring is thin and rounded, Germany on the clip ring, no serial number.Great condition with no brassing of the gold, no scratches/nicks. I have a 1960's #149 where the feed has midline grooves..this pen didn't have those, so not from the 60's. These features jive with the Pentrace article on #149's, stickied in the MB forum.
Best of all....the pen writes like new...smooth wet medium..I have been using it since it arrived!
So yes, a FPN member (new-ish) got lucky and got this pen.
