I found this forum a little while back, I was searching penmanship and ended up in the penmanship section. So I have mainly lurk there and haven't even got a chance to check out all the good post throughout. I put a post in Penmanship and was directed here to say hello. So some of this was written there as well.
I have been playing with calligraphy as an artistic outlet for a while, and really got into the everyday penmsnship after finding"An Elegant Hand" in my library. Wow, what an awesome book.

I am a single father of 3 and had given up drawing which I really liked, due to the way I draw is to sit down and from start to finish do a picture. This was impossible once I had kids, I never have that much time and found I could almost never finish if I left a picture. I have quite a few pictures I have never finished. I thought calligraphy was the way to go since if I only had time for one letter I could finish that picture and could practice with everyday writing.

What I have read and seen here I really like. I have been a member of weightlifting boards before and we always had problems with spamming and wise butts. There doesn't seem to be that here. Just a lot of people interested in the same thing and a lot of respect. I look forward to learning from everyone here.

Welcome! I remember flying into Kingman doing general aviation hops from the North Las Vegas airport when I was at Nellis.

Welcome to FPN.

Uberman (Mike),

I know what you mean about three kids. They eat up a lot of mind space that used to be focused on other things.

Welcome to FPN. I know you will enjoy your stay here. What pens do you use?

Thanks for the welcomes.
Mike, I have been using pencils and ballpoint pens. I had been doing copperplate by using tons of pressure on ball points for the thick down strokes or by going back and drawing over the down strokes to make them thicker. I really know nothing about the lingo of calligraphy or the tools, so on alot of these posts I am lost. I received a calligraph set for christmas that has a cheap fountain broad nib pen, and have picked up a rotring art pen and the other day I got a waterman med point from office max. I like the smoothness of the waterman but it writes rather thick. Besides being a medium point it could be because I am very heavy handed when I write. I don't have a lot of money for expensive pens or experimentation so I have a post in the penmanship forum asking about a pen to get that has a flexible nib. Mike
