I hope I'm in the right area for this queation.
I found a small tin, approx two and seven eights inches long, three eights of an inch wide and the same for the height. On the one side is printed W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co. Fort Madison, Iowa. U.S.A. Made in U.S.A. The other side is printed Sheaffer's. The top is hard to make out, on one end is a capitol "U", the number "3" something I can't make out, and on the opposite end says 19 cents. The lid surrounds the inside and slides open, only in one direction. Was it possibly to hold lead for a Sheaffer type pencil?

Your guess sounds reasonable to me. Welcome to FPN johnnymac. Are you otherwise interested in pens? pencils?
