What's your preference for a (relatively) waterproof fountain pen ink? Considering such variables as whether it might stain a transparent portion of the pen, whether it's good for addressing envelopes, and whether it's important to use as a signature ink on legal documents.
I habitually use Waterman Florida Blue for nearly all FP writing, but I also need to fill one pen with something with which to address envelopes. I'll probably use my Parker 51 Demi sized, because it will get sporadic regular use but only at a small volume on any one given occasion. What ink should I put into it? (The pen is a darker blue teal color, if that matters.)
Your suggestions welcome.

I'd think the best ink if you want one bulletproof color would be black. You can then choose between the different Noodler's inks (Old Manhattan Black seems to get the nod as darkest) depending on exactly what attributes you like best.
The only reason not to go black if you ask me is if you need to be able to easily tell originals from copies. In that case, I have to say I'm quite satisfied with Legal Lapis.

I only have one: Noodler's Luxury Blue, which I keep loaded in my Pelikan. I discovered I had the bottle just last week, so I'm still trying it out. I have no idea how long ago I got it!

Don't know if I would use it in a vintage pen, but Noodlers Black is pretty good, only problem I find is that it seems to take forever to dry, so not one I use habitually at work.

I really like noodler's fox red but it's too RED and ALARMING to use most of the time.
THese days i use noodler's red/black which has enough waterproof particles to stay perfectly legible.

I tend to have a pen loaded with Noodler's Legal Lapis and another with Noodler's Blue-Black. The Lapis is bulletproof and the BB is nearly so.
The Legal Lapis would probably look nice with the colour of your 51.

An alternative is to rub a candle over the front of your envelope. It will prevent the ink from smudging or washing off

The only bulletproof ink that goes into my pens is Diamine Registrar's ink. It's blue-black.

That was going to be my suggestion. Means you can use any ink you like.

for what its worth,
i keep a candle on my desk specifically for rubbing on envelopes to protect the ink.
i got into that habit living in the SF bay area, which in certain parts tends to be rainy and damp.
as far as i can tell the candle wax thing is pretty much fog and rain-proof
i have also used transparent tape (my mom taught me to do that).
other than that i suppose it would be the noodlers bulletproof black or a uni 207.

Hey Richard, does Diamine Registrar's make any trouble about staining the pen parts? I might be wary of putting it in something with a clear celluloid ink-view portion made from before the 1950s or so, I'd guess. Your thoughts?
